The RBL Icon pays 20 Reward Points per ₹100 on weekend dining and international spends — 5% — on a 0.5% base, with golf, concierge and lounge access.

RBL advertises '6% value back' and 'milestones worth ₹13,500'. Both assume you fill the accelerated cap every month and clear both milestones.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

RBL values a Reward Point at ₹0.25 — its own working figure rather than a published redemption table. Several RBL cards use a different value, so point counts are not comparable across the range without checking.

20 Reward Points per ₹100 on weekend dining and international spends — 5%. 2 per ₹100 on everything else — 0.5%.

RBL stopped paying rewards on a whole category block on 13 November 2023 — Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets. The same list is excluded from milestone spend.

The caps that actually bind

Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:

CapLimit
Monthly2,000 points per calendar month

The dining half of the 20X band is WEEKEND-ONLY. RBL's terms say '20 reward points for every valid retail transaction worth INR 100 spent on dining only on Weekends'. No merchant category code expresses a day of the week, so any structured comparison will apply 5% to weekday dining too and overstate the card.

The band caps at 2,000 Reward Points a month — ₹500 of value, binding at ₹10,000 of qualifying spend.

RBL rounds down on every transaction. A ₹350 spend at 1 point per ₹100 earns 3 points and the ₹50 is lost — every time, not cumulatively.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets and Service Providers — RBL's own category list, excluded from earning AND from milestone spend calculation, with effect from 13 November 2023. Railways and Government are excluded on some cards additionally. Base Reward Points are also NOT accrued on EMI conversion of retail transactions, including Split-N-Pay and EMI requests placed at the point of sale.
  • Point expiry: Reward Points expire after the validity period RBL prescribes and are forfeited on card closure. Points transferred to a partner programme are governed by that programme's expiry rules, not RBL's.
  • Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.
  • Monthly cap: 2,000 Reward Points a month on the 20X band — ₹500 of value, binding at ₹10,000 of weekend dining or international spend a month.

Is the RBL Bank Icon Credit Card Worth It?

The milestones are 10,000 Reward Points at ₹3 lakh and a further award at ₹5 lakh — RBL states the second threshold but not its value.

At ₹5,000 the card needs the weekend dining band filled to work. ₹10,000 of weekend dining a month returns ₹500 — ₹6,000 a year, which covers the fee with the milestone on top.

Golf and concierge are the tier benefits and carry no rupee value in any comparison, so they are invisible in a ranking that looks only at earn rates.

The 0.5% base rate is weak, so this is a card to use deliberately on its categories rather than for everything.
