HSBC Live+ costs ₹999, waived at ₹2,00,000 of annual spending, and advertises 10% cashback on dining, food delivery, grocery, shopping and utilities.

The cap on that 10% is the number that decides the card.

The caps that actually bind

Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:

CapLimit
Monthly1,200 points per calendar month

₹1,200 a month binds at ₹12,000 of spending

At 10%, the cap is reached at ₹12,000 of eligible spend in a month. Everything past that earns the 1.5% base.

Monthly eligible spendCashbackEffective rate
₹12,000₹1,200**10.0%**
₹20,000₹1,3206.6%
₹30,000₹1,470**5.0%**
₹50,000₹1,7703.5%

So a household spending ₹30,000 a month across those five categories earns a blended 5.0%, not 10%. That is still good — it is simply not the headline.

The forex markup is the quiet advantage

1.99% — the lowest in HSBC's range, and less than half the 3.5% every other HSBC card charges. On ₹1,00,000 of foreign spending that saves ₹1,510 against a Visa Platinum or RuPay card, which is more than the annual fee.

Charges, which are identical across the range

HSBC's Key Fact Statement quotes the same figures for all seven cards:

  • Interest: 3.75% a month, 45% a year, computed from the transaction date
  • Interest-free period: up to 45 days — void if any part of last month's bill is still outstanding
  • Late payment: 100% of the Minimum Payment Due, floored at ₹250 and capped at ₹1,200 a month. Charged only if the minimum fails to reach HSBC within 3 days of the due date — a grace period HSBC states explicitly
  • Rent: 1% processing fee on rental and related payments
  • Fuel: a 1% transaction fee, and no rewards. There is no surcharge waiver

Worked example

Spend ₹25,000 a month on dining, grocery and shopping and ₹20,000 on everything else. The accelerated band pays its ₹1,200 ceiling, the remaining ₹13,000 of eligible spend pays 1.5% (₹195), and the ₹20,000 of other spending pays 1.5% (₹300). That is ₹1,695 a month, ₹20,340 a year, on a card whose fee is waived at ₹2,00,000 of spending.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Fuel and cash withdrawals earn nothing.
  • Point expiry: Not published for this card in the uploaded sources. Not published is not the same as never expiring.
  • Monthly cap: ₹1,200 of accelerated cashback per month across all five categories combined. At 10% it binds at just ₹12,000 of eligible spend a month.

Is the HSBC Live+ Credit Card Worth It?

1.5% unlimited on everything else is a strong floor for a ₹999 card, and the ₹2,00,000 waiver is about ₹16,700 a month.

Judge it on the blended rate, not the headline. For most households the honest number is somewhere between 3.5% and 6.6%.

Welcome benefits are worth ₹1,750 — ₹1,000 cashback on spending ₹25,000 in the first 30 days, plus a ₹750 voucher for Amazon Pay, Zomato and Swiggy on activation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is HSBC Live+ really 10% cashback? On dining, food delivery, grocery, shopping and utilities, yes — but capped at ₹1,200 a month across all five combined, which is reached at ₹12,000 of eligible spend. Past that the rate is 1.5%. A household spending ₹30,000 a month in those categories earns a blended 5.0%.

Which HSBC card has the lowest forex markup? Live+, at 1.99%. Every other HSBC credit card charges 3.5%.

What is an HSBC Reward Point worth? ₹1.00 when redeemed on Apple products or Travel with Points — HSBC publishes that rate itself in its own value calculators. Points also transfer to airline and hotel programmes at 1:1, but HSBC publishes no rupee value for a transferred mile.

What interest does an HSBC credit card charge? 3.75% a month, which is 45% a year, computed from the transaction date. The interest-free period runs up to 45 days but is lost entirely if any part of the previous month's bill is left outstanding.

Do HSBC credit cards earn rewards on fuel? No. Fuel earns nothing across the range, and HSBC levies a 1% fuel transaction fee on top. There is no fuel surcharge waiver on any of the seven cards.
