Axis Reserve is the bank's most expensive card at ₹50,000 a year, and it is priced for a specific kind of spender: someone with heavy foreign-currency spending who will use unlimited international lounge access.

Its 1.5% forex markup is the lowest on any Axis card and less than half what most of the range charges. That single number does more work than everything else on the card.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

EDGE Reward Points are worth ₹0.20 on the Gift EDGE portal — Axis states the rate directly. Every percentage here is stated after that conversion.

15 EDGE Reward Points per ₹200 on general spends — 1.5%. 30 per ₹200 on international spends — 3.0%, double the base.

Axis changed this card on 28 August 2026. Gift-card purchases and toll, bridge and road fees stopped earning rewards and stopped counting toward milestones and the annual fee waiver.

SpendEffective rate
International spends**3.0%**
Everything else1.5%
Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming**0%**

The ₹35 lakh fee waiver is the highest in the range and excludes rent, wallet, utilities, government, EMI, cash and gift cards. For practical purposes, treat ₹50,000 as a fixed annual cost rather than something you can spend your way out of.

Priority Pass no longer works at domestic lounges, from 28 August 2026. Domestic entry now requires presenting the Axis card itself with a boarding pass. International access is unchanged.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; rent (MCC 6513); wallet loads (MCC 6540); government institution transactions (MCC 9222, 9311, 9399, 9402); cash withdrawals; EMI conversions; gift card purchases and toll, bridge and road fees (both excluded w.e.f. 28 August 2026); and fees, charges, GST and reversals. Insurance, utilities, telecom, education and jewellery are excluded on some cards only — the per-card notes say which.
  • Point expiry: EDGE Reward Points and EDGE Miles expire 36 months from the date of accrual unless the card's own terms say otherwise. Points are forfeited if the card is closed, and a NEGATIVE point balance at closure is converted to a statement debit the cardholder must pay.
  • Redemption fee: ₹199 per redemption.

Is the Axis Bank Reserve Credit Card Worth It?

The economics only work on foreign spending. At 1.5% against a typical 3.5% markup, ₹10 lakh of overseas spending a year saves ₹20,000 — plus the 3% international earn rate on top, which is another ₹30,000. That is the case for the card, and it is a real one.

On domestic spending alone it does not come close. 1.5% on ₹2 lakh a month returns ₹36,000 against a ₹50,000 fee. You are paying ₹14,000 a year for lounge access and service.

Unlimited international lounge access is genuinely uncapped, which is rare — most premium cards quoting 'unlimited' mean unlimited membership with chargeable visits.

The August 2026 change hurt this card specifically. Losing domestic Priority Pass on a ₹50,000 card is a real reduction, and it arrived alongside the gift-card and toll exclusions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Axis Reserve forex markup? 1.5% — the lowest on any Axis card, and the main reason to hold it. International spends also earn double points at 30 per ₹200.

What is the fee and can it be waived? ₹50,000 plus GST. The waiver threshold is ₹35 lakh of eligible annual spend, which excludes rent, wallet, utilities, government, EMI, cash and gift cards. Most holders should budget the fee as fixed.

How much lounge access does it give? Unlimited international lounge access through Priority Pass for the primary cardholder. Domestic Priority Pass access ended on 28 August 2026.

What is the earn rate? 15 EDGE Reward Points per ₹200 on general spends — 1.5% at ₹0.20 a point — and 30 per ₹200 on international spends, which is 3.0%.

Is Reserve better than Magnus? For foreign spending, yes: 1.5% forex against 2%, and a higher base rate. For everything else, Magnus costs a quarter as much. Reserve only makes sense at very high spend with a strong international component.
