The IndianOil Axis card pays 4% on fuel at IndianOil outlets — genuinely good in a category almost every other card excludes entirely — plus 1% on online spends and 0.2% on everything else.

Both accelerated bands cap at ₹5,000 of spend a month, which is the figure that decides whether the card is worth ₹500.

The caps that actually bind

Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:

CapLimit
Fuel1,000 points per calendar month
Online250 points per calendar month

Both accelerated bands bind at ₹5,000 of spend a month. Fuel caps at 1,000 EDGE Reward Points and online at 250 — ₹200 and ₹50 of value respectively. The maximum accelerated benefit is ₹250 a month, ₹3,000 a year, against a ₹500 fee.

This card is the exception to Axis's range-wide fuel exclusion. Every other Axis card earns nothing on fuel; here it is the headline category. In this dataset the fuel merchant codes are removed from the exclusion list on this card rather than appearing in two places.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; rent (MCC 6513); wallet loads (MCC 6540); government institution transactions (MCC 9222, 9311, 9399, 9402); cash withdrawals; EMI conversions; gift card purchases and toll, bridge and road fees (both excluded w.e.f. 28 August 2026); and fees, charges, GST and reversals. Insurance, utilities, telecom, education and jewellery are excluded on some cards only — the per-card notes say which.
  • Point expiry: EDGE Reward Points and EDGE Miles expire 36 months from the date of accrual unless the card's own terms say otherwise. Points are forfeited if the card is closed, and a NEGATIVE point balance at closure is converted to a statement debit the cardholder must pay.
  • Redemption fee: ₹199 per redemption.
  • Fuel cap: 1,000 EDGE Reward Points a statement month on IndianOil fuel — ₹200 of value, binding at ₹5,000 of fuel spend a month.
  • Online cap: 250 EDGE Reward Points a statement month on online spends — ₹50 of value, binding at ₹5,000 of online spend.

Is the IndianOil Axis Bank Credit Card Worth It?

₹3,000 a year of accelerated value against a ₹500 fee is a clear positive for anyone buying ₹5,000 of fuel a month.

Above ₹5,000 of monthly fuel the card stops scaling. ₹15,000 a month of fuel earns the same ₹200 as ₹5,000 does. It is a card for ordinary commuting, not for a fleet.

The 0.2% base rate is poor, so do not put general spending on it.

The fuel surcharge waiver is capped at ₹50 a statement cycle — the lowest in this dataset and a quarter of what most Axis cards allow.

No fee waiver is published, so budget ₹500 as a fixed annual cost.
