The Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card pays 5% at Tata Neu and partner Tata brands and 1.5% on everything else, in NeuCoins worth ₹1 each. Crucially, the 1.5% includes UPI transactions — which most Indian co-brands either exclude or pay less on.

At ₹1,499 with 1,499 welcome NeuCoins that match the fee exactly, year one is free. A 1.5% base rate that covers UPI is, quietly, one of the stronger everyday propositions in SBI's range — though UPI earning itself stops at 500 NeuCoins a month.

Eligibility Criteria

SBI Card publishes no age or income threshold. Approval rests on its own assessment. Indian residency and a valid PAN are required. Add-on cards are free.

The 1.5% Includes UPI — And That Is the Real Story

SBI states it explicitly: the base rate applies to UPI transactions as well as card transactions.

That is unusual and valuable. Most Indian co-brands either exclude UPI outright — the Reliance SBI cards do, dropping you from 2.5% to 0.25% on a QR scan — or pay a reduced rate on it. Here UPI spend earns the same rate as card spend — but only up to 500 NeuCoins a month, which is ₹33,333 of UPI spend. Past that, UPI earns nothing for the rest of the month.

For anyone who pays by QR code routinely, this is worth more than a headline percentage point elsewhere. It means the card works at the small merchants, kirana stores and roadside outlets where a card terminal is rare and a QR code is universal.

1.5% on everything, including UPI, in points worth a full rupee — that beats the accelerated rates on several SBI cards once their 4-points-to-a-rupee conversion is applied. The base rate is uncapped outside the five capped categories.

Reward Structure

**Everything else****1.5%****None**, except the five categories below
Fuel, cash advances**0%**—

NeuCoins are worth ₹1 each — published, not inferred. Both SBI and Tata state "1 NeuCoin = Re. 1 savings" outright, which makes the percentages above true percentages rather than points-at-25-paise.

Three conditions worth catching

EMI is excluded from the 5% rate. SBI's wording is "on Non-EMI spends at the Tata Neu App/Website and partner Tata brands". Convert a Tata Neu purchase to EMI and you forfeit the accelerated rate entirely.

There is an "extra 5% on select categories" that cannot be pinned down. SBI says an additional 5% applies to select category spends on the Tata Neu app or website — 10% in total — without publishing which categories qualify. Treat it as an upside to check at the point of purchase, not a rate to plan around.

The partner brand list is wider than most tools recognise. Tata Neu itself, Croma, BigBasket, Tata CLiQ, Westside and Air India are the widely recognised brands. Tata's actual partner list also includes Tata 1mg, Qmin, IHCL hotels and Tata Play among others, so comparison engines will understate the card at those.

Lounge Access Is Gated on Previous-Quarter Spend

The headline is 8 domestic airport lounge accesses a year, 2 per quarter, plus a complimentary international lounge programme.

But access in any quarter requires ₹75,000 of spend in the previous quarter.

  • A new cardholder gets nothing in their first quarter — there is no previous quarter to qualify on.
  • Any quarter you fall short costs the following quarter's visits, and they do not roll forward.
  • Sustaining the full entitlement means ₹3 lakh a year, spread evenly across quarters.

It is a quarterly test, not an annual one. Spending ₹3 lakh lumpily will lose you visits despite clearing the annual figure.

No Fee Waiver, No Milestones

No spend-based fee reversal is published for either Tata Neu card at any level — unusual in SBI's range.

What replaces it: 1,499 welcome NeuCoins, credited within 15 days of joining-fee realisation, matching the ₹1,499 fee exactly. Year one is free for anyone who pays the fee.

From year two, the ₹1,499 is a real cost. At 1.5% that needs ₹1,00,000 of annual spend to recover — a low bar for anyone using the card regularly.

There is no milestone programme on either Tata Neu card.

Worked Example

Illustrative, at ₹35,000 a month — ₹4.2 lakh a year, comfortably holding the lounge gate:

CategoryMonthly spendRateValue
Tata Neu, Croma, BigBasket, Westside₹8,0005%₹400
Everything else, including UPI₹25,0001.5%₹375
Fuel₹2,0000%₹0
**Monthly total****₹35,000****₹775 — 2.21%**

Annual tally:

NeuCoins earned₹9,300
Welcome NeuCoins (year one)₹1,499
**Year-one total****₹10,799**
**Steady state****₹9,300**
Annual fee₹1,499 (never waived)
**Net, steady state****₹7,801 — 1.86% of spend**

Plus 8 domestic lounge visits and the international programme (₹1.05 lakh a quarter clears the ₹75,000 gate).

Note the base rate does more work than the headline suggests: ₹4,500 of the ₹9,300 comes from ordinary spending at 1.5%, against ₹4,800 from the Tata band. This is not a single-purpose co-brand.

Where You Won't Earn

**Fuel**MCC 5172, 5541, 5542, 5983
**Cash advances**2.5% fee, minimum ₹500, interest from day one
**EMI at Tata Neu**Forfeits the 5% rate specifically

The fuel surcharge waiver is the whole fuel benefit: 1% reversed on transactions between ₹500 and ₹4,000, capped at ₹250 per statement cycle — more generous than the ₹100 most SBI cards allow.

SBI's range-wide transaction fees apply: ₹199 per rent payment, 1% on wallet loads above ₹1,000, 1% on utility payments once the cycle total passes ₹50,000, and 1% on education payments through third-party apps.

Infinity vs Tata Neu Plus

Break-even on the ₹1,000 fee difference, on the base rate alone: ₹1,000 ÷ 0.5 percentage points = ₹2,00,000 of annual general spend. On the Tata band it is much faster — ₹1,000 ÷ 3 points = ₹33,333 of annual Tata spend.

For most people the Infinity wins, because ₹33,000 a year across BigBasket, Croma and Westside is not a lot. The Plus makes sense only for a light spender who rarely buys from Tata brands.

Is the Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card Worth It?

Yes, if you buy from Tata brands at all. 5% uncapped at BigBasket, Croma, Westside, Tata CLiQ and Tata Neu — the Tata-brand band genuinely carries no cap — is among the best retail rates available, and the break-even against the cheaper card is only ₹33,000 of annual Tata spend.

Yes, even if you don't. A 1.5% base rate that includes UPI, in points worth a full rupee, makes this a credible primary card — subject to the 500-NeuCoin monthly UPI cap and the four other category caps.

Yes, if you pay by QR code often. Very few co-brands reward UPI at the full rate. This one does.

Watch the lounge gate. ₹75,000 a quarter, every quarter, or you lose the following quarter's visits. A new cardholder gets nothing in their first quarter.

No, if your annual spend is under ₹1 lakh. With no fee waiver at any level, the ₹1,499 needs ₹1 lakh at 1.5% just to break even from year two.

Don't count on the "extra 5%." SBI publishes no list of qualifying categories for the additional 5% on the Tata Neu app.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the annual fee of the Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card? ₹1,499 plus GST, on joining and renewal. No spend-based fee reversal is published at any level. The 1,499 welcome NeuCoins match the fee exactly, so year one is free.

What is the reward rate? 5% value back as NeuCoins on non-EMI spends at Tata Neu and partner Tata brands, and 1.5% on everything else — including UPI transactions. Neither rate is capped.

Do UPI payments earn rewards? Yes, at the full 1.5% base rate — SBI states the UPI inclusion explicitly. That is unusual; most Indian co-brands exclude UPI or pay less on it.

What is a NeuCoin worth? ₹1 — both SBI and Tata state "1 NeuCoin = Re. 1 savings" outright. That makes NeuCoins worth four times an ordinary SBI Reward Point.

Does EMI earn the 5% rate? No. SBI's wording is "on Non-EMI spends", so converting a Tata Neu purchase to EMI forfeits the accelerated rate.

Which brands count as partner Tata brands? Tata Neu, Croma, BigBasket, Tata CLiQ, Westside and Air India are the widely recognised ones. Tata's list also includes Tata 1mg, Qmin, IHCL hotels and Tata Play, among others.

How does the lounge access work? 8 domestic visits a year, 2 per quarter, plus an international programme — but access in any quarter requires ₹75,000 of spend in the previous quarter. A new cardholder gets nothing in their first quarter.

Do NeuCoins expire? Expiry is governed by Tata Neu's own rules rather than SBI's 24-month Reward Point clock. SBI publishes no expiry, so check Tata Neu's terms.
