The KVB SBI Signature Card is a ₹4,999 premium card co-issued with Karur Vysya Bank. It has no fee waiver — unusual at this price — and compensates with a four-rung milestone ladder worth ₹12,500 a year at ₹5 lakh of spend. Whether the card works for you comes down almost entirely to whether you clear those rungs.

KVB SBI Signature Card Quick Overview

**Card type**Premium lifestyle card, co-issued with Karur Vysya Bank

**Joining / annual fee**₹4,999 + GST, same on renewal — **no spend-based waiver**
**Network**Visa
**Top reward rate**2.5% — 5X Reward Points on dining, departmental stores and grocery
**Base rate**0.5% — 2 Reward Points per ₹100
**Reward type**Reward Points, worth ₹0.25 each (4 RP = ₹1)
**Welcome benefit**₹5,000 e-gift voucher
**Milestones**10,000 RP each at ₹2L, ₹3L and ₹4L; 20,000 RP at ₹5L — **₹12,500 total**
**Lounge access**8 domestic visits a year (max 2 per quarter) + Priority Pass membership

Eligibility Criteria

The card is distributed through Karur Vysya Bank branches — SBI's own FAQ says to apply at the nearest KVB branch rather than online. No age or income threshold is published; approval rests on the bank's assessment. Indian residency and a valid PAN are required. Add-on cards are free.

The Milestone Ladder Is the Card

There is no spend-based fee reversal on this card. At ₹4,999 that is conspicuous — SBI's own mainline ELITE costs the same and reverses at ₹10 lakh. What you get instead is a four-rung annual bonus ladder:

Annual spendBonus Reward PointsValue
₹2,00,00010,000 RP₹2,500
₹3,00,00010,000 RP₹2,500
₹4,00,00010,000 RP₹2,500
₹5,00,000**20,000 RP****₹5,000**
**All four cleared****50,000 RP****₹12,500**

Cleared in full, the ladder returns ₹12,500 against a ₹4,999 fee — 2.5% of ₹5 lakh in milestone bonuses alone, on top of the earn rate.

The rungs are cumulative rather than alternatives: pass ₹5 lakh of annual spend and you collect all four. That makes ₹5 lakh the number to plan around. At ₹4 lakh you take ₹7,500 and the fee is still comfortably covered; at ₹2 lakh you take ₹2,500 and are ₹2,499 down on the fee before earn rates.

Below roughly ₹2.5 lakh of annual spend, this card is hard to justify.

Reward Structure

Reward Points are worth ₹0.25 each — 4 points redeem against ₹1 of the outstanding bill.

SpendPointsEffective rate
Dining10 RP per ₹100 (5X)**2.5%**
Departmental stores10 RP per ₹100 (5X)**2.5%**
Grocery and supermarkets10 RP per ₹100 (5X)**2.5%**
Everything else2 RP per ₹100**0.5%**
FuelNil**0%**

The accelerated band is capped at 10,000 Reward Points a month, shared across all three categories, which binds at ₹1,00,000 of such spend in a month.

Importantly, SBI states what happens past the cap: "After reaching the capping limit, 2 Reward Points for every Rs. 100 spent will continue to accrue." So the rate drops to the base rate, not to zero. That is better than the silent treatment most cards give, and better than the zero-fallback that applies on some SBI co-brands.

Note what is missing: movies. The ₹499 SimplySAVE includes cinema in its accelerated band; this ₹4,999 card does not. If you move up from SimplySAVE you lose the accelerated rate on movie tickets.

As always, the category follows the merchant's MCC, assigned by Visa, not by what the shop sells.

Welcome Benefit

A ₹5,000 e-gift voucher, chosen from Yatra, Hush Puppies, Bata, Pantaloons, Aditya Birla Fashion, Shoppers Stop and others.

The conditions matter. The voucher link is sent to your registered email and mobile within 21 days of the annual fee being realised — not on approval — and you claim it by logging in with your registered mobile number and an OTP.

At ₹5,000 against a ₹4,999 fee, year one is effectively free.

Lounge Access

8 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits a year, capped at 2 per calendar quarter. That is a generous domestic entitlement, matching SBI's own ELITE.

Internationally, the card includes complimentary Priority Pass membership worth US$99, giving access to 600+ lounges in 300+ cities. But every visit costs US$27 plus taxes. The membership saves you the $99 joining cost; it does not make any visit free. At roughly ₹2,300 a visit, Priority Pass on this card is a convenience, not a benefit — treat the international lounge entitlement as zero when comparing cards.

Worked Example

Illustrative, at ₹42,000 a month — ₹5.04 lakh a year, which clears all four milestone rungs:

CategoryMonthly spendPointsValue
Grocery and departmental₹18,0001,800₹450
Dining₹7,000700₹175
Everything else₹17,000340₹85
**Monthly total****₹42,000****2,840****₹710 — 1.69%**

Annual tally:

Reward Points₹8,520
Milestone ladder (all four rungs)₹12,500
Welcome voucher (year one only)₹5,000
**Year-one total****₹26,020**
**Steady-state total (year two onward)****₹21,020**
Annual fee**₹4,999** (never waived)
**Net, steady state****₹16,021 — 3.2% of spend**

At ₹5 lakh a year the card is strong. At ₹2 lakh the same table gives roughly ₹5,900 of value against a ₹4,999 fee — barely break-even.

Where You Won't Earn

ExcludedNote
**Fuel**MCC 5172, 5541, 5542, 5983 — excluded across SBI's range
**Cash advances**2.5% fee, minimum ₹500, interest from day one

The fuel surcharge waiver is the whole fuel benefit: 1% reversed on transactions between ₹500 and ₹4,000, capped at ₹250 per statement cycle.

SBI's range-wide transaction fees apply: ₹199 per rent payment, 1% on wallet loads above ₹1,000, 1% on utility payments once the cycle total passes ₹50,000, and 1% on education payments through third-party apps.

The 3.5% forex markup is worth flagging at this price point. SBI's own ELITE, at the same ₹4,999 fee, charges 1.99%. If you spend meaningfully abroad, that 1.5-point difference is worth more than most of this card's benefits.

Is the KVB SBI Signature Card Worth It?

Yes, if you will spend ₹4–5 lakh a year on it. The milestone ladder alone returns ₹12,500, the fee is ₹4,999, and 2.5% on dining and grocery with a high ₹1 lakh monthly cap is a solid everyday rate. Eight domestic lounge visits round it out.

No, if you will spend under ₹2.5 lakh a year. With no fee waiver and a milestone ladder you cannot reach, the ₹4,999 is dead money. KVB's own SBI Platinum card at ₹2,999, or the ₹499 SimplySAVE, will serve better.

No, if you spend abroad. The 3.5% forex markup and the pay-per-visit Priority Pass make this a poor travel card despite the Signature badge. SBI Card ELITE at the same fee charges 1.99% forex and includes six genuinely free international lounge visits a year.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the annual fee of the KVB SBI Signature Card? ₹4,999 plus GST, on joining and renewal. There is no spend-based fee reversal — unusual for a card at this price.

What are the milestone benefits? 10,000 bonus Reward Points at each of ₹2 lakh, ₹3 lakh and ₹4 lakh of annual spend, and 20,000 at ₹5 lakh. Cleared in full that is 50,000 points — ₹12,500 — in a year.

What is the reward rate? 5X Reward Points on dining, departmental stores and grocery. Against this card's base of 2 points per ₹100, that is 10 points per ₹100 — 2.5%. Everything else earns 2 points per ₹100, or 0.5%.

Is there a cap on the accelerated rate? Yes — 10,000 Reward Points a month across the three categories combined, reached at ₹1,00,000 of such spend. Past the cap, SBI states the base rate of 2 points per ₹100 continues to accrue.

How many lounge visits are complimentary? Eight domestic visits a year, with a maximum of two per calendar quarter. The Priority Pass membership is complimentary but each international visit costs US$27 plus taxes, so no international visit is free.

Do movies earn the accelerated rate? No. The 5X band covers dining, departmental stores and grocery only. Movies are not included, unlike on SBI's SimplySAVE.

How do I apply? Through a Karur Vysya Bank branch. SBI's own FAQ directs applicants to the nearest KVB branch rather than an online application.
