Air India SBI Signature Card Review 2026: 10 RP per ₹100 on Air India, ₹25,000 Milestones & FAQs
Air India SBI Signature Card costs ₹4,999 and earns 10 Reward Points per ₹100 on Air India bookings, 4 elsewhere, with up to 100,000 bonus points a year and 8 domestic lounge visits. Full maths, the Maharaja Points catch, fees and FAQs.
The Air India SBI Signature Card is SBI's premium Air India co-brand: ₹4,999 a year, 10 Reward Points per ₹100 on Air India tickets booked direct and 4 per ₹100 on everything else, with a milestone ladder worth up to 100,000 bonus points and eight domestic lounge visits a year.
Two things shape the decision. The card has no fee waiver at any spend level, and its Reward Points have exactly one destination — conversion to Air India Maharaja Points, irreversibly.

Eligibility Criteria
SBI Card publishes no age or income threshold. Approval rests on its own assessment. Indian residency and a valid PAN are required. Add-on cards are free.
An Important Caveat on What the Points Are Worth
Every rupee figure in this article uses ₹0.25 per Reward Point, and that number needs a health warning.
SBI publishes no rupee value for this currency anywhere. It states the accrual rate and names the redemption partner, but never says what a point is worth. ₹0.25 is SBI's standard Reward Point rate across its whole range, applied here for want of anything better — it is not a measured value of the Maharaja Points channel.
There is reason to think it understates the card. Air India itself sells Maharaja Points at roughly ₹1.50 each, and award redemption values vary widely by route and cabin. But SBI does not publish the Reward-Point-to-Maharaja-Point conversion ratio, so no defensible arithmetic is available.
Read the percentages below as a conservative floor, not a measurement.
How Redemption Actually Works — and Its Restrictions
The points' only stated destination is conversion to Air India Maharaja Points, and the process is more constrained than most:
- Minimum 5,000 points, and in multiples of 5,000
- Takes 7 working days to process
- Irreversible — once converted, points cannot come back
- Redeeming Maharaja Points for yourself requires at least one flight accrual activity recorded on the Maharaja Club account
There is no statement-credit channel and no catalogue on this card. If you do not fly Air India, the points have nowhere useful to go.
A further practical note: Air India rewards credit within 60 days of the transaction posting, which is slow by Indian standards. Do not expect to see accrual on the next statement.
Reward Structure
| Spend | Points | Effective rate at ₹0.25 |
|---|---|---|
| **Air India tickets booked direct** | 10 RP per ₹100 | **2.5%** |
| Everything else | 4 RP per ₹100 | **1%** |
| Fuel, cash advances | Nil | **0%** |
Neither rate carries a published cap. An uncapped 1% base rate is solid — better than most SBI cards, which sit at 0.25% or 0.5%.
"Booked direct" is a real condition. The 10X rate applies to Air India tickets bought through its website, app, booking offices or call centres. An Air India ticket bought through MakeMyTrip, Yatra or a corporate travel desk earns the 1% base rate, not 2.5%. This catches people out regularly.
Welcome Benefit and the Milestone Ladder
Welcome: 20,000 Reward Points — ₹5,000 at ₹0.25 — credited within 15 days of the annual fee payment posting, plus complimentary membership of the Air India Maharaja Club. That covers the ₹4,999 fee in year one.
Milestones — the card's main engine:
| Annual spend | Bonus points | Value at ₹0.25 |
|---|---|---|
| ₹5,00,000 | 20,000 | ₹5,000 |
| ₹10,00,000 | 30,000 | ₹7,500 |
| ₹20,00,000 | 50,000 | ₹12,500 |
| **All three** | **100,000** | **₹25,000** |
SBI states the ceiling as "up to 100,000 bonus Reward Points annually" — ₹25,000 at the conservative valuation, and five times the annual fee.
Milestones are measured from the account creation date, not the calendar year — SBI states this explicitly.
Note the shape: the rungs are widely spaced and the top one needs ₹20 lakh of annual spend. At ₹5 lakh you take ₹5,000 of bonus points, which alone covers the fee.
Lounge Access
8 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits a year, under the Visa lounge programme, capped at 2 per quarter.
There are no complimentary international lounge visits. The card carries a Priority Pass membership giving access to 600+ lounges worldwide, but every visit is charged — the membership saves the joining fee and nothing more. On a ₹4,999 airline card, treat the international lounge entitlement as zero.
One transparency note: the 8-visit domestic entitlement does not appear on SBI's captured product page and is verified from third-party card databases.
Worked Example
Illustrative, at ₹50,000 a month — ₹6 lakh a year, clearing the first milestone:
| Category | Monthly spend | Rate | Points | Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Air India tickets, booked direct | ₹8,000 | 2.5% | 800 | ₹200 |
| Everything else | ₹40,000 | 1% | 1,600 | ₹400 |
| Fuel | ₹2,000 | 0% | 0 | ₹0 |
| **Monthly total** | **₹50,000** | **2,400** | **₹600 — 1.2%** |
Annual tally:
| Reward Points earned | ₹7,200 |
|---|---|
| Milestone at ₹5 lakh | ₹5,000 |
| Welcome points (year one) | ₹5,000 |
| **Year-one total** | **₹17,200** |
| **Steady state** | **₹12,200** |
| Annual fee | **₹4,999** (never waived) |
| **Net, steady state** | **₹7,201 — 1.2% of spend** |
Plus 8 domestic lounge visits, not counted — and remember the ₹0.25 valuation is likely conservative.
At ₹20 lakh of annual spend the picture is far stronger: ₹24,000 in earned points plus ₹25,000 of milestone bonuses against the ₹4,999 fee.
Where You Won't Earn
| Excluded | Note |
|---|---|
| **Fuel** | MCC 5172, 5541, 5542, 5983 |
| **Cash advances** | 2.5% fee, minimum ₹500, interest from day one |
The fuel surcharge waiver is the whole fuel benefit: 1% reversed on transactions between ₹500 and ₹3,000, capped at ₹100 per statement cycle — a low cap for a ₹4,999 card.
SBI's range-wide transaction fees apply: ₹199 per rent payment, 1% on wallet loads above ₹1,000, 1% on utility payments once the cycle total passes ₹50,000, and 1% on education payments through third-party apps.
Fees and Charges
| Charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | ₹4,999 + GST |
| Renewal fee | ₹4,999 + GST — **no spend-based reversal at any level** |
| Add-on card fee | Nil |
| Finance charge | 3.75% per month — **45% per annum** |
| Interest-free period | 20 to 50 days; none if any part of last month's bill is unpaid |
| Forex markup | **3.5%** |
| Cash advance fee | 2.5%, minimum ₹500 |
| Fuel surcharge waiver | 1% on ₹500–₹3,000, max ₹100 per cycle |
| Late payment | ₹100 to ₹1,300 by balance |
| Overlimit | 2.5%, minimum ₹600 |
| Reward redemption fee | ₹99 on physical products, statement credit and physically-sent vouchers |
| GST | 18% on all of the above |
The absence of a fee waiver is unusual in SBI's range and is the card's clearest weakness. SBI Card ELITE costs the same ₹4,999 and reverses at ₹10 lakh; this card never does.
Signature vs Air India SBI Platinum
| Air India SBI Platinum | **Air India SBI Signature** | |
|---|---|---|
| Annual fee | ₹1,499 | ₹4,999 |
| Air India rate | 5 RP per ₹100 (1.25%) | **10 RP per ₹100 (2.5%)** |
| Base rate | 2 RP per ₹100 (0.5%) | **4 RP per ₹100 (1%)** |
| Welcome | 5,000 RP (₹1,250) | **20,000 RP (₹5,000)** |
| Milestone ceiling | 15,000 RP (₹3,750) | **100,000 RP (₹25,000)** |
| Milestone thresholds | ₹2 lakh, ₹3 lakh | ₹5 lakh, ₹10 lakh, ₹20 lakh |
| Domestic lounge | 4 a year | **8 a year** |
| Fee waiver | None | None |
The Signature doubles both rates and raises the milestone ceiling nearly sevenfold. Break-even on the ₹3,500 fee difference is about ₹7 lakh of annual spend on the base rate alone — below that, the Platinum's lower fee wins; above it, the Signature's milestone ladder pulls decisively ahead.
Is the Air India SBI Signature Card Worth It?
Yes, if you spend ₹5 lakh+ a year and fly Air India. The milestone ladder is the card — ₹25,000 at full stretch — and the uncapped 1% base rate is respectable in its own right.
Yes, if you book Air India direct. 2.5% on airfare paid through Air India's own channels is a strong rate.
No, if you do not fly Air India. The points convert to Maharaja Points and nothing else — irreversibly, in blocks of 5,000, and only usable once you have a flight accrual on the account. A points currency with one exit is a real risk.
No, if your annual spend is under ₹3 lakh. There is no fee waiver at any level, the first milestone needs ₹5 lakh, and the ₹4,999 will simply be a cost.
Note the valuation uncertainty. At ₹0.25 a point this card looks ordinary; if the true Maharaja Points value is closer to Air India's ₹1.50 sale price, it looks very different. SBI does not publish the conversion ratio needed to settle it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the annual fee of the Air India SBI Signature Card? ₹4,999 plus GST, on joining and renewal. No spend-based fee reversal is published at any level — unusual in SBI's range.
What is the reward rate? 10 Reward Points per ₹100 on Air India tickets booked direct and 4 per ₹100 on everything else — 2.5% and 1% at ₹0.25 a point. Neither rate is capped.
Does an Air India ticket bought on MakeMyTrip earn 10X? No. The accelerated rate applies only to tickets booked through Air India's own website, app, booking offices or call centres. Third-party bookings earn the 1% base rate.
What can I redeem the points for? Air India Maharaja Points only, in a minimum of 5,000 and in multiples of 5,000. The conversion takes 7 working days and is irreversible. There is no statement-credit or catalogue channel on this card.
What are the points actually worth? SBI publishes no rupee value. This review uses ₹0.25 — SBI's standard Reward Point rate — as a conservative floor. Air India itself sells Maharaja Points at about ₹1.50 each, so the true value may be higher, but SBI does not publish the conversion ratio needed to work it out.
What are the milestone benefits? 20,000 bonus points at ₹5 lakh of annual spend, 30,000 at ₹10 lakh and 50,000 at ₹20 lakh — up to 100,000 points a year, which SBI states as the ceiling. Milestones run from the account creation date, not the calendar year.
How many lounge visits do I get? Eight domestic visits a year under the Visa programme, capped at two per quarter. There are no complimentary international visits — the Priority Pass membership charges for every visit.
How quickly do rewards credit? Within 60 days of the transaction posting, which is slower than most Indian cards.
