RBL Bank World Safari Credit Card Review 2026: Zero Forex Markup, Travel Points, Lounge Access, Fees
A detailed 2026 review of the RBL Bank World Safari Credit Card — India's original 0% forex markup travel card. Reward rates, ₹3,000 MakeMyTrip welcome voucher, lounge rules, milestone points, fees and charges explained.
The RBL Bank World Safari Credit Card was the first mainstream Indian retail credit card to drop the foreign currency markup to zero, and that single feature still defines it. For ₹3,000 a year it hands you a ₹3,000 MakeMyTrip voucher on joining, Priority Pass access, complimentary overseas travel insurance and a modest points programme skewed towards travel spends. Whether it earns its keep depends almost entirely on how much you spend abroad.

Eligibility Criteria
- Age: 21 years and above at application. Aggregators cite an upper limit of 60 to 65 years, though RBL Bank does not publish one.
- Residency: Resident Indian with a valid address and identity proof.
- Income: RBL Bank publishes no official threshold. Third-party sources cite roughly ₹3 lakh a year for salaried applicants and ₹4 lakh a year for the self-employed, though at least one tracker puts the salaried figure closer to ₹40,000 a month. Treat these as indicative.
- Credit score: A CIBIL score of about 700 or above is commonly cited as the working floor.
Meeting these does not guarantee approval — RBL Bank applies its own internal scoring.
Welcome Benefit
New cardmembers receive a MakeMyTrip voucher worth ₹3,000, which effectively offsets the first-year joining fee before GST.
Two conditions apply, and both must be met:
- Complete at least one eligible retail transaction within 30 days of card issuance.
- Pay the annual membership fee shown on your first statement by that statement's payment due date.
The voucher is emailed to your registered address within 60 days of card issuance, and the voucher link stays valid for 120 days from the date you receive the eligibility communication. Miss either window and the benefit is gone — this is the most commonly forfeited perk on the card.
Reward Structure: How You Earn
The programme is deliberately simple. There are two earn rates and one long exclusion list.
| Spend type | Reward Points | Approximate value |
|---|---|---|
| Travel — airlines, hotels & motels, transportation | 5 points per ₹100 | ~1.25% |
| All other eligible domestic retail spends | 2 points per ₹100 | ~0.5% |
| Excluded categories (see below) | Nil | 0% |
| International spends outside travel | Nil | 0% |
Neither rate is capped. Points are credited within 45 days of the settlement date of the eligible transaction, and a consolidated summary appears on your monthly statement. Points are valid for two years from the date of earning.
On point value: RBL Reward Points are worth about ₹0.25 each when redeemed through the RBL Rewards travel portal for flights and hotels. Redeem for merchandise or general catalogue vouchers instead and the realised value drops — industry trackers have recorded RBL redemptions as low as roughly ₹0.16 per point on some options. Every rate quoted above assumes you redeem for travel. If you don't, mentally cut them by about a third.
The international quirk worth understanding. The card gives you 0% forex markup but no reward points on foreign spends — with one exception. International spends in the travel category still earn the full 5 points per ₹100. So a hotel booked in Bangkok earns; a shopping bill in Bangkok does not. You save on the markup either way.
Illustrative earning example
The product Terms & Conditions do not include a worked rewards example, so the following is an illustration built from the published rates. Actual earnings depend on how each merchant is classified by the payment network.
Take a cardmember spending ₹1,00,000 in a month:
| Spend | Amount | Rate | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flight and hotel bookings | ₹30,000 | 5 per ₹100 | 1,500 |
| Groceries, dining, online shopping | ₹40,000 | 2 per ₹100 | 800 |
| Utility bills | ₹10,000 | Excluded | 0 |
| Fuel | ₹8,000 | Excluded | 0 |
| Rent | ₹12,000 | Excluded | 0 |
| **Total** | **₹1,00,000** | **2,300 points ≈ ₹575** |
That works out to an effective 0.575% for the month — a reminder that the exclusion list does more damage to this card's headline rate than the rates themselves suggest.
Milestone Benefits
Milestones are measured over a membership year, the 12-month period running from your card issuance date. They stack rather than replace one another.
| Annual spend | Benefit | Approximate value |
|---|---|---|
| ₹2.5 lakh | 10,000 bonus Reward Points | ₹2,500 |
| ₹5 lakh | 15,000 bonus Reward Points | ₹3,750 |
| ₹7.5 lakh | Voucher worth ₹10,000 from Taj Experiences, Croma, Amazon, MakeMyTrip or Myntra | ₹10,000 |
Hit all three and you have collected 25,000 bonus points plus a ₹10,000 voucher — around ₹16,250 in total. Bonus points are credited within 45 days of crossing each threshold; the voucher is emailed via Vouchagram India Pvt. Ltd. within the same window.
A caveat on what counts. The Terms & Conditions refer only to "eligible transactions" without publishing a separate milestone exclusion list. The reasonable assumption is that the same reward-excluded categories — fuel, utilities, wallet loads, insurance, railways, rent and miscellaneous payments — do not count towards milestone spends either, but RBL Bank has not confirmed this. If you are engineering your spends to hit ₹7.5 lakh, do not assume rent and utilities will carry you there.
Other Benefits
0% forex markup. The card's defining feature. Where most Indian cards charge 3.5% plus 18% GST on that markup, the World Safari charges nothing — a saving of roughly 4.13% on every foreign currency transaction. RBL Bank also waives the dynamic currency conversion assessment on this card.
Domestic lounge access. Two complimentary visits per calendar quarter for the primary cardmember. Since 1 July 2025 this is conditional: you must have spent ₹35,000 or more in the previous calendar quarter to unlock the current quarter's visits. Unused visits lapse at quarter-end and do not carry forward. Add-on cardholders are not covered. A validation hold of up to ₹25 is charged and reversed in the same billing cycle.
International lounge access. A complimentary Priority Pass membership gives you 2 visits per calendar year across 1,400+ lounges, with no spend condition attached. On top of that, every calendar quarter in which you spend ₹50,000 or more earns 1 additional visit, issued as a Lounge Key voucher claimable through the RBL MyBank app. That voucher becomes available in the first week of the following month, must be claimed by the end of the second month after the qualifying month, and stays valid for 180 days once issued. Maximise this and you reach six international visits a year. Beyond your complimentary visits, each entry costs up to US$35 — including for any guest you bring.
Overseas travel insurance. A complimentary policy with a sum insured of USD 50,000, roughly ₹44 lakh, underwritten by Care Health Insurance Limited. It covers personal liability, trip delay, baggage loss, loss of passport and dental treatment. Critically, the policy is not automatic — RBL Bank emails a generation link within 30 days of card issuance and you must submit your mobile number, date of birth, passport number and nominee details to generate it. It is valid for a year and lapses entirely if you cancel the card.
Golf privileges — Mastercard only. Four complimentary green fee rounds a year, one golf lesson a month, and 50% off green fees beyond the four rounds. This benefit is provided by Mastercard and is not available on the Visa variant of the card. Bookings go through the Mastercard World Card golf helpline with seven days' notice. Since RBL Bank issues the World Safari on both networks, confirm your network before counting this in.
24x7 concierge. Operated by Aspire Lifestyles India Pvt. Ltd. on a single helpline. Covers golf course referrals, hotel and dining reservations, travel bookings, car rental and limousine referrals, spa and fitness referrals, flower and gift delivery, and world event ticketing. It is a referral and reservation service, not a booking guarantee.
Fuel surcharge waiver. 1% at all fuel stations, on transactions between ₹500 and ₹4,000 exclusive of GST, capped at ₹250 a month. Transactions below ₹500 or above ₹4,000 get nothing, GST on fuel is never reversed, and the waiver does not apply to delinquent or closed cards. The reversal appears consolidated on your monthly statement.
Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn Reward Points
The Terms & Conditions exclude these merchant categories from the rewards programme entirely:
| Excluded category | Merchant Category Codes |
|---|---|
| Fuel & Auto | 0032, 2541, 4001, 5542, 5541, 5172 |
| Utilities | 4900 |
| Insurance | 6300, 6310 |
| Railways | 0066, 4011, 4112 |
| Real Estate / Rental | 6513 |
| Wallet / Service Providers | 6540 |
| Miscellaneous | 5960 |
Also earning nothing:
- All international spends outside the travel category. Foreign travel bookings still earn 5 points per ₹100; everything else abroad earns zero.
- EMI-converted retail transactions, including Split-N-Pay and EMI elected at the point of sale.
- Cash advances, fee and charge payments, and disputed or reversed transactions.
Note the railways carve-out carefully. Transportation is part of the 5X travel definition, but passenger railway codes are explicitly excluded — so IRCTC bookings earn nothing on this card despite travel being its whole premise.
Several of these excluded categories also attract a transaction fee, so they are doubly unattractive here: rent costs 1%, utilities above ₹50,000 a month cost 1%, and fuel or auto transactions above ₹10,000 cost 1% capped at ₹3,000.

Is the RBL Bank World Safari Credit Card Worth It?
The maths on this card is unusually clean, because one benefit dominates everything else.
At 0% forex versus a typical 3.5% plus GST, you save about ₹4,130 per ₹1 lakh of foreign spend. The ₹3,000 annual fee therefore pays for itself at roughly ₹73,000 of annual foreign currency spend — about one moderate international trip. Add the ₹3,000 MakeMyTrip voucher in year one and the card is effectively free from day one. If you travel abroad once or twice a year and put your hotels, meals and shopping on this card, it is straightforwardly good value, and the Priority Pass membership and USD 50,000 policy are genuine extras rather than padding.
It suits you less well as an everyday card. A 0.5% base rate is weak, the exclusion list is long enough to strip out most recurring household spend, and several excluded categories carry a 1% fee on top. There is no spend-based fee waiver, so ₹3,000 is payable every year regardless of how much you spend. The domestic lounge benefit now demands ₹35,000 of spend a quarter, which quietly moved this from an unconditional perk to a conditional one in mid-2025. And if you are issued the Visa variant, the golf programme simply does not exist for you.
The honest summary: this is a specialist forex card with some travel perks attached, not a general-purpose rewards card. If your international spending is negligible, the ₹3,000 fee buys you very little, and a no-fee card with a better base rate will serve you better. If you spend meaningfully abroad, few Indian cards at this price point compete.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the annual fee for the RBL Bank World Safari Credit Card? ₹3,000 plus GST in the first year and ₹3,000 plus GST every year thereafter. RBL Bank offers no spend-based waiver on this card, unlike several of its other variants.
Is the forex markup really zero? Yes. RBL Bank's Most Important Terms and Conditions confirm 0% markup on foreign currency transactions for the World Safari, World Safari Lite, World Safari Plus and Lumière cards, against 3.5% on most other RBL cards. The dynamic currency conversion assessment is also nil on this card.
Do I earn reward points on international spends? Only in the travel category. International travel spends earn 5 points per ₹100; every other foreign transaction earns nothing. The 0% markup applies regardless.
How much is one RBL Reward Point worth? About ₹0.25 when redeemed through the RBL Rewards travel portal for flights and hotels. Other redemption routes have historically been worth less, so travel redemptions are where the stated 1.25% and 0.5% rates actually hold.
How do I get the ₹3,000 MakeMyTrip welcome voucher? Make at least one eligible retail transaction within 30 days of card issuance and pay the annual membership fee reflected in your first statement by its due date. The voucher arrives by email within 60 days of issuance and the link is valid for 120 days from receipt.
What are the domestic lounge access rules? Two complimentary visits per calendar quarter for the primary cardmember only, but since 1 July 2025 you must have spent ₹35,000 or more in the previous calendar quarter to qualify. Unused visits lapse at the end of the quarter.
How many international lounge visits do I get? Two per calendar year through the complimentary Priority Pass membership, with no spend condition. Spend ₹50,000 or more in a calendar quarter and you unlock one additional visit for that quarter, claimed as a Lounge Key voucher through the RBL MyBank app — so up to six a year in total.
Which spends do not earn reward points? Fuel and auto, utilities, insurance, railways, rent and real estate, wallet loads, and miscellaneous payments as defined by their merchant category codes. EMI-converted transactions, cash advances and fee payments also earn nothing.
Is the travel insurance automatic? No, and this catches people out. RBL Bank emails a policy generation link within 30 days of card issuance, and you must complete it with your passport and nominee details to activate the USD 50,000 cover. The policy runs for one year and becomes void if the card is cancelled.
Is the golf benefit available on every World Safari card? No. The four complimentary rounds, monthly lesson and 50% discounted green fee are provided by Mastercard and are available only to cardmembers on the Mastercard network. RBL Bank issues the World Safari on both Visa and Mastercard, so check your card's network first.
Is there a fee to redeem reward points? Yes — ₹99 plus GST. The fee is charged once per day regardless of how many redemptions you make that day, so batching redemptions saves money.
How long do the reward points last? Two years from the date of earning, unless RBL Bank communicates otherwise.
How much do I need to spend abroad for this card to break even? Roughly ₹73,000 a year in foreign currency spends covers the ₹3,000 fee purely through forex savings, before counting the welcome voucher, lounge access or points.
