RBL Bank Platinum ShopSmart Credit Card pays 5.0% cashback on shopping, and the number that decides everything is the cap: ₹250 a month.
That binds at ₹5,000 of qualifying spend a month — so the realistic maximum from the headline band is ₹3,000 a year.

Reward Structure: How You Earn
5.0% cashback on shopping, capped at ₹250 a month.
RBL publishes no general rate for spending outside that band on this card, so any structured comparison shows a placeholder rather than a real figure for everything else.
RBL stopped paying rewards on a whole category block on 13 November 2023 — Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets. Several cards in this series were designed around categories that no longer earn, so older reviews describe products that have since been hollowed out.
| Spend | Effective rate |
|---|---|
| Shopping (capped at 250 points a month) | **5.0%** |
| Everything else | 0.0% |
| Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming | **0%** |
The caps that actually bind
Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:
| Cap | Limit |
|---|---|
| Monthly | 250 points per calendar month |
The cap is the card. At 5.0% it fills at ₹5,000 a month — a modest weekly shop. Past it the band pays nothing more that month.
RBL rounds down on every transaction. A ₹350 spend at 1 point per ₹100 earns 3 points and the ₹50 is lost — every time, not cumulatively.
Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn
- Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets and Service Providers — RBL's own category list, excluded from earning AND from milestone spend calculation, with effect from 13 November 2023. Railways and Government are excluded on some cards additionally. Base Reward Points are also NOT accrued on EMI conversion of retail transactions, including Split-N-Pay and EMI requests placed at the point of sale.
- Point expiry: Reward Points expire after the validity period RBL prescribes and are forfeited on card closure. Points transferred to a partner programme are governed by that programme's expiry rules, not RBL's.
- Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.
- Monthly cap: ₹250 a month of cashback on the accelerated band — ₹3,000 a year at most, binding at ₹5,000 of qualifying spend a month.

Is the RBL Bank Platinum ShopSmart Credit Card Worth It?
The Platinum and World range is RBL's legacy series. These cards share one earning engine — a 1-to-2 point base per ₹100 with an accelerated band capped at around 1,000 Reward Points a month — and differ mainly by fee, lounge allowance and milestone ladder. At RBL's ₹0.25 working point value the base rates run 0.25% to 0.5%.
The honest arithmetic: ₹3,000 a year at most from the 5.0% band, against a ₹499 fee. That is a clear positive if you fill the cap every month.
2 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits a year, capped at 1 per quarter.
The fee is waived at ₹50,000 of annual spend.
If you are choosing a new card rather than holding this one, RBL's current range is better value — the Paisabazaar Duet is free and pays 1% up to ₹500 a month, which beats most of these legacy cashback variants outright.
