Reward Structure: How You Earn
RBL values a Reward Point at ₹0.25 — its own working figure, stated on its product pages as 'For calculation purpose, we have assumed value of 1 Reward Point = INR 0.25'. That is the bank's assumption rather than a published redemption table, and several RBL cards use a different value entirely, so check the card before comparing point counts across the range.
5 Reward Points per ₹100 on domestic spends — 1.25%. 10 per ₹100 on international — 2.5%, which RBL describes as 2X.
RBL stopped paying rewards on a whole block of categories on 13 November 2023 — Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets. The same list is excluded from milestone spend, so you cannot reach a milestone on utility or insurance spending on any RBL card.
| Spend | Effective rate |
|---|---|
| International spends | **2.5%** |
| Everything else | 1.25% |
| Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming | **0%** |
The international rate cannot fire in any structured comparison. 'International' is a currency condition, not a merchant category, and no MCC expresses it — so expect any calculator to show this card at its 1.25% domestic rate.
RBL rounds down on every transaction, not cumulatively. Its terms say a transaction 'will not earn Reward Points for the residual amount' — so at 1 point per ₹100 a ₹350 spend earns 3 points and the ₹50 is lost, and lost again on the next transaction. Across many small purchases that quietly erodes the headline rate.
From 7 January 2026 RBL charges 1% on FASTag loading and toll payments above ₹10,000 per transaction.
Milestone Benefits
| Spend | Benefit | Value |
|---|---|---|
| ₹8 lakh a year | Vouchers worth ₹8,000 from Amazon, Myntra, Croma and other brands | ₹8,000 |
Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn
- Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets and Service Providers — RBL's own category list, excluded from earning AND from milestone spend calculation, with effect from 13 November 2023. Railways and Government are excluded on some cards additionally. Base Reward Points are also NOT accrued on EMI conversion of retail transactions, including Split-N-Pay and EMI requests placed at the point of sale.
- Point expiry: Reward Points expire after the validity period RBL prescribes and are forfeited on card closure. Points transferred to a partner programme are governed by that programme's expiry rules, not RBL's.

Is the RBL Bank Insignia Preferred Banking Credit Card Worth It?
The fee is NIL for Insignia Preferred Banking customers. RBL's Schedule of Charges states it twice. This is a relationship card: hold the banking relationship and it costs nothing; do not, and it is ₹12,500 with a ₹10 lakh waiver threshold.
The ₹8 lakh milestone pays vouchers worth ₹8,000 from Amazon, Myntra, Croma and others — a 1:1 return on the spend threshold's first rupee, which is unusually clean.
The 1.5% markup is the structural advantage. Against a 3.5% card it saves ₹20,000 on every ₹10 lakh spent abroad.
The ₹99 redemption fee is waived on this card.
