The Kotak Solitaire Business is built on cost, not on earn rate. It charges 1.99% a month in interest — 23.88% APR, by a wide margin the lowest on any Kotak card — and a 1.99% foreign currency markup, the lowest in the range. The annual fee is nil for as long as you stay in the Kotak Solitaire Programme.

On top of that it pays 7X Reward Points on travel booked through Kotak Unbox, and lets you redeem up to 100% of a cart value with points, which no other Kotak card allows.

The special categories earn HALF the base rate, not more. Kotak lists utility bills, groceries, insurance premiums, government payments (including taxes) and railway bookings as "special categories" — and they earn 1 point per ₹150 against 2 on ordinary spend. They are also separately capped at 1,000 Reward Points per statement cycle, binding at ₹1.5 lakh of such spend.

The naming invites exactly the wrong conclusion. Treat these as a penalty band, not a bonus one.

The Unbox travel cap

1,00,000 Reward Points per statement cycle, which binds at roughly ₹21.4 lakh of Unbox travel spend in a single cycle. Unreachable for practical purposes.

Booked anywhere other than Kotak Unbox, the same flight or hotel earns the 0.67% base rate.

Redemption — the 100% cart rule

1 Reward Point = ₹0.50 on the Kotak Unbox platform, and points may cover up to 100% of the cart value.

That matters more than it sounds. Every other Kotak card in this dataset caps redemption at 80%, forcing you to pay at least a fifth in cash. Here a balance can be liquidated in full.

Minimum 500 Reward Points per redemption. Kotak says vouchers, merchandise, catalogue redemption and partner miles transfer "will be live soon" — none of them is available yet, so there is no second channel to compare against.

International spend earns nothing

Same structural trade-off as several Kotak cards: the 1.99% forex markup is a genuine saving against the standard 3.50%, and Kotak's own value chart prices it at ₹1,359 on ₹90,000 of foreign spend — but the spend it applies to earns no Reward Points.

Lounge Access

Entitlement
**Domestic**1 complimentary visit per quarter
**International**1 complimentary visit per year, via Priority Pass

No spend gate on either. Validation charges: ₹2 domestic, $1 international (auto-reversed within 7 working days). Enable international POS and online transactions for the international charge to go through.

Modest by the standards of Kotak's premium consumer cards, but this is a business card with no fee.

Travel Insurance

Seven covers, underwritten by Zurich Kotak Mahindra General Insurance:

CoverSum insured
Card liability — lost card, counterfeit, skimming, phishing, online fraud₹50,000

Business Software Discounts

Discounts on Google Workspace, AWS, Microsoft Azure and others through Kotak's Nuclei partnership at kotakbank.gonuclei.com.

Kotak publishes no discount percentage or cap for these, so their value can't be quantified here — but for a business running cloud infrastructure they may be the most useful thing on the card.

Railway surcharge waiver**Not applicable**

The 1.99% monthly interest rate is the headline. The rest of Kotak's range runs 3.30% to 3.75% a month. On a business card carrying a revolving balance — which many do, for working-capital reasons — the difference between 23.88% and 45% APR is enormous.

The fuel surcharge waiver cap of ₹5,000 an anniversary year is second only to the consumer Solitaire's ₹10,000. Fuel earns no points, so the waiver is the entire fuel benefit.

The fee is programme-linked. Nil while you're in the Kotak Solitaire Programme, ₹3,499 if you fall out of it. Kotak's own value chart counts that ₹3,499 as a benefit.

Where You Won't Earn

Kotak's list: "Reward points are not applicable on EMI transactions, international spends, and select categories including rent, wallets, fuel, and education."

Note the word "including" — the list is expressly not exhaustive. Anything modelled from it is a ceiling, and other categories may be excluded in practice.

Cash withdrawal isn't allowed at all, so there's nothing to exclude there.

Kotak's Own Value Chart

At ₹15 lakh of annual spend:

CategorySpendSavings
Domestic hotels via Unbox₹2,25,000₹10,500
Domestic flights via Unbox₹2,25,000₹10,500
International hotels via Unbox₹2,25,000₹10,500
International flights via Unbox₹2,25,000₹10,500
Special categories₹1,50,000₹500
Everything else₹3,15,000₹2,100
Forex markup saving₹90,000₹1,359
Domestic lounge—₹2,500
International lounge—₹3,500
Fuel surcharge waiver₹45,000₹450
Annual fee waiver—₹3,499
**Total****₹15,00,000****₹55,908 (4%)**

That assumes 60% of all spend goes through Kotak Unbox, which is aggressive. Strip that back to a realistic ₹3 lakh of Unbox travel and the total falls to roughly ₹25,000.

Who Should Get the Kotak Solitaire Business

Good fit if:

  • You're in the Kotak Solitaire Programme — the card is programme-linked
  • Your business books travel and you're willing to route it through Kotak Unbox
  • You carry a balance, even occasionally — 23.88% APR against 45% is the card's real value
  • You spend abroad — 1.99% markup, though that spend earns nothing
  • You want travel insurance bundled rather than bought

Look elsewhere if:

  • You're not in the Solitaire Programme, or might be downgraded out of it
  • Your business spend is heavy on utilities, government payments, insurance or railways — those earn half the base rate and are capped at 1,000 points a cycle
  • You need cash withdrawal on a business card — it isn't available
  • You book travel outside Kotak Unbox — you'd be on 0.67%
