The ICICI Emeralde is a ₹12,000 super-premium card whose case rests on two things that are genuinely uncapped: unlimited domestic and international lounge access for the primary cardholder, and a 2% forex markup well below the 3.5% most of the ICICI range charges.

The earn rate is 1%, which is respectable rather than remarkable.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

ICICI does not publish what a Reward Point is worth. Not in its Most Important Terms, not in the card terms, and not on its own rewards page, which lists redemption categories without a single conversion rate. This review uses ₹0.25, the third-party consensus for statement-credit and catalogue redemption. Every percentage below therefore rests on a figure the bank itself will not state — treat them as indicative, not exact.

4 Reward Points per ₹100 on domestic AND international spends — about 1%. 1 per ₹100 on utility and insurance.

Note the domestic and international rates are the same here, unlike Rubyx and Sapphiro where international earns double.

From 15 January 2026 fuel and e-wallet loads earn nothing on ICICI cards. The Parakram cards are the only exception on fuel; the Amazon Pay card the only exception on wallets. New fees arrived the same day: 1% on wallet loads of ₹5,000 or more, 2% on skill-based gaming, 1% on transportation above ₹50,000, and ₹3,500 one-time for every new add-on card.

The caps that actually bind

Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:

CapLimit
Utility80,000 points per calendar month
Insurance80,000 points per calendar month
Grocery40,000 points per calendar month
Transport20,000 points per calendar month

From 1 February 2026 ICICI caps rewards by a SPEND ceiling, not a points ceiling. That distinction matters: once you pass the ceiling in a capped category, further spending in it earns nothing at all that cycle, rather than dropping to a lower rate. Grocery, utility, insurance, education and transportation are all capped this way, at levels set by card tier.

On the premium tier the ceilings are ₹80,000 of utility, ₹80,000 of insurance, ₹40,000 of grocery and ₹20,000 of transportation per statement cycle.

The BookMyShow buy-one-get-one is now spend-gated — it requires ₹25,000 of spend in the previous calendar quarter, where it used to be unconditional. A new cardholder gets nothing in their first quarter.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel (MCC 1361, 3851, 5172, 5541, 5542, 5555, 5983, 9752 — the Parakram cards are exempt); e-wallet loads (MCC 6540 — the Amazon Pay card is exempt); cash advances; and, on the premium metal cards, government services, rent, tax payments and property management. Both fuel and wallet exclusions took effect on 15 January 2026.
  • Point expiry: Reward Points are valid for 36 months from the date of accrual. Points LAPSE ENTIRELY on card cancellation, and a redemption handling fee of ₹99 plus GST applies to each redemption request.
  • Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.
  • Utility cap: ₹80,000 of utility spend per statement cycle qualifies for Reward Points, w.e.f. 1 February 2026. This is a SPEND ceiling, not a points ceiling — spend beyond it in this category earns NOTHING more that cycle, rather than dropping to a lower rate. ICICI sets the ceiling by card tier; this card is on the premium tier.
  • Insurance cap: ₹80,000 of insurance spend per statement cycle qualifies for Reward Points, w.e.f. 1 February 2026. Is the ICICI Bank Emeralde Credit Card Worth It?

Unlimited lounge access, domestic and international, is the benefit that justifies the fee. Very few Indian cards offer it genuinely uncapped, and at ₹12,000 it works out well for anyone flying monthly.

The 2% forex markup saves ₹15,000 on ₹10 lakh of foreign spending against a 3.5% card — more than the fee on its own.

1% on everything is fine but not the reason to hold it. ₹1 lakh a month returns ₹1,000; over a year that is ₹12,000 against a ₹12,000 fee, so the points roughly break even and the lounges and forex rate are the profit.

The ₹10 lakh fee waiver is demanding, and rent, government and education spends do not count toward it.

Milestone and welcome benefits are released only after the fee has actually been paid. If your annual fee is waived, you forfeit them. Rent, government and education spends also do not count toward either the fee waiver or the milestones.
