HSBC Premier earns 3 Reward Points per ₹100 on everything, uncapped — the highest base rate in HSBC's range and among the highest uncapped base rates anywhere in this dataset.

It costs ₹12,000. For a large number of holders, it costs nothing.

The fee is waived by relationship, not by spending

This is the important structural point. HSBC waives the renewal fee for Qualified Premier customers holding a Premier relationship in India — there is no spend threshold at all.

So the card is free if you hold the banking relationship and ₹12,000 if you do not, however much you spend. Lose Premier status and no amount of card spending brings the fee back down.

The underlying data records the waiver type as none, because the schema's vocabulary offers only none or spend-based and there genuinely is no spend threshold. That understates the card — read this section, not that field.

'Up to 12X' is a ceiling, not a rate

HSBC's wording is up to 12X, and the band is scoped to its own Travel with Points portal rather than to a merchant category. A flight booked anywhere else earns the 3-point base. Treat 12% as the best case, not the expected one.

Points that never expire

HSBC states explicitly that Premier Credit Card reward points do not expire — rare enough in this dataset to be worth naming.

Lounges

Unlimited domestic and international access for the cardholder, plus 8 international guest visits a year.

What an HSBC Reward Point is worth

₹1.00 — and unusually, HSBC publishes that itself. Both of its own value calculators state "1 Reward Point = ₹1 if redeemed on Apple/Travel with Points" and use that rate throughout their worked examples. Every percentage in this review is calculated on it.

The other published route is air miles and hotel points at 1:1, transferable inside the HSBC India Mobile Banking app to Air India, Etihad, British Airways and others. A mile is not a rupee, though, and HSBC publishes no value for one — so that channel could beat ₹1 a point or fall well short of it, depending entirely on the redemption you take.

Charges, which are identical across the range

HSBC's Key Fact Statement quotes the same figures for all seven cards:

  • Interest: 3.75% a month, 45% a year, computed from the transaction date
  • Interest-free period: up to 45 days — void if any part of last month's bill is still outstanding
  • Late payment: 100% of the Minimum Payment Due, floored at ₹250 and capped at ₹1,200 a month. Charged only if the minimum fails to reach HSBC within 3 days of the due date — a grace period HSBC states explicitly
  • Rent: 1% processing fee on rental and related payments
  • Fuel: a 1% transaction fee, and no rewards. There is no surcharge waiver

Worked example

Spend ₹60,000 a month on the card. At 3 points per ₹100 that is 1,800 points a month, 21,600 a year — ₹21,600 at HSBC's published ₹1 rate. Add the 20,000-point welcome benefit and year one returns ₹41,600 against a ₹12,000 fee, or against nothing at all if you bank Premier.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Fuel and cash withdrawals earn nothing.
  • Point expiry: Not published for this card in the uploaded sources. Not published is not the same as never expiring.

Is the HSBC Premier Credit Card Worth It?

If you are a Qualified Premier customer, this is close to unarguable — 3% uncapped on a card that costs you nothing, with unlimited lounge access and points that never expire.

If you are not, ₹12,000 buys a 3% card. That clears its own fee at ₹4,00,000 of annual spending, before counting the 20,000-point welcome benefit.

The welcome benefit is 20,000 Reward Points — ₹20,000 at HSBC's published rate, awarded on first use. That alone covers the fee nearly twice over in year one.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is the HSBC Premier Credit Card free? It is free for Qualified Premier customers holding a Premier relationship in India — HSBC waives the renewal fee for them entirely. For everyone else it is ₹12,000, and no amount of spending waives it, because the waiver is relationship-based rather than spend-based.

Do HSBC Premier reward points expire? No. HSBC states that Premier Credit Card reward points never expire.

What is an HSBC Reward Point worth? ₹1.00 when redeemed on Apple products or Travel with Points — HSBC publishes that rate itself in its own value calculators. Points also transfer to airline and hotel programmes at 1:1, but HSBC publishes no rupee value for a transferred mile.

What interest does an HSBC credit card charge? 3.75% a month, which is 45% a year, computed from the transaction date. The interest-free period runs up to 45 days but is lost entirely if any part of the previous month's bill is left outstanding.

Do HSBC credit cards earn rewards on fuel? No. Fuel earns nothing across the range, and HSBC levies a 1% fuel transaction fee on top. There is no fuel surcharge waiver on any of the seven cards.
