This is HDFC's card built specifically for UPI. RuPay credit cards can be linked to UPI apps, which means you earn card rewards on QR-code payments — something Visa and Mastercard credit cards cannot do in India.

The rates are decent: 3% on grocery, supermarkets, dining and PayZapp, 2% on utilities. Note the CashPoint here is worth ₹0.25, not ₹1.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

The card earns CashPoints valued at ₹0.25 — a quarter of the PIXEL and Millennia CashPoint, despite the shared name.

3% on groceries, supermarkets, dining and PayZapp. 2% on utility bills. 1% base.

This card was unaffected by HDFC's 15 May 2026 rate change, which moved the Reward Point cards from ₹150 to ₹200 earning blocks. The cashback and co-brand cards were left alone.

The caps that actually bind

Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:

CapLimit
Utility2,000 points per calendar month

Utilities are capped at 2,000 CashPoints a calendar month. The 3% band on grocery and dining has no published cap, which is unusual and worth treating with some caution — HDFC caps these categories on most other cards in its range.

The real benefit is UPI eligibility itself. Linking this card to a UPI app turns every QR-code payment into a card transaction earning rewards — a category most credit cards simply cannot reach.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; EasyEMI and e-wallet loading; rent, property management, maintenance and packers-and-movers; government transactions; education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik (paying a college or school directly still earns); and online skill-based gaming. Points are also REVERSED if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
  • Point expiry: Reward Points are valid for 24 months from accrual and lapse thereafter — HDFC states 'Unredeemed Reward Points will expire/lapse after 2 years of accumulation'.
  • Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.
  • Utility cap: 2,000 CashPoints per calendar month on utility spends, w.e.f. 1 September 2024.

Is the HDFC Bank UPI RuPay Credit Card Worth It?

If a large share of your spending goes through UPI QR codes, this card has no direct competitor. That is the case for holding it, and it is a strong one.

At ₹250 reversed at ₹25,000, the fee is nearly irrelevant.

Check the ₹0.25 CashPoint valuation against your expectations. The 3% and 2% figures here are stated after that conversion, so they are real — but anyone assuming a ₹1 CashPoint from HDFC's other cards will misread the underlying point counts.

RuPay acceptance is excellent in India and improving abroad, so unlike Diners this network choice costs you very little domestically.
