Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card Review 2026: 10% Swiggy Cashback, Category Caps, Fees & FAQs
Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card review 2026 — 10% cashback on Swiggy, 5% on select online categories, 1% elsewhere, ₹500 fee, ₹3,500 monthly cap. Fees, exclusions and whether it is still worth holding.
Important — the card is closed to new applications. HDFC Bank stopped issuing the original Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card in February 2026 after launching the Swiggy Ornge and Swiggy BLCK variants. Existing cardholders keep the card on its original terms and, per the bank's April 2026 update, are not being migrated to Ornge or BLCK. This review is therefore written for people who already hold the card and want to use it well.
For a ₹500 annual fee, this card built its reputation on one number: 10% back on everything you buy inside the Swiggy app. Layered on top is 5% on a tightly defined list of online shopping categories and 1% on most other spends. The catch — and it is a real one — is that each of those three buckets has its own monthly cashback ceiling, and once a ceiling is hit, spending in that bucket earns nothing at all.

Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Indian

- Income: ₹15,000 and above per month for salaried; annual ITR above ₹6,00,000 for self-employed
- Card variants are also issued on the basis of credit profile and location, over and above the income criteria
- Note: new applications are no longer being accepted, so these criteria are historical
Welcome Benefit
A complimentary Swiggy One membership for 3 months, unlocked on card activation. A few conditions govern it:
- Activation must happen within 37 days of card issuance. Activation counts as making a transaction, or using OTP/IVR, setting the card PIN, or enabling card controls such as online or international transactions.
- The benefit has to be claimed inside the Swiggy app; the option appears there within 2–3 days of activation.
- If you already hold Swiggy One, the existing membership is topped up by 3 months rather than replaced. A user with 6 months remaining ends up with 9.
HDFC values the 3-month membership at ₹1,199 in its own card value chart, and separately estimates around ₹2,100 of average delivery-fee and discount savings over those 3 months.
There was also a limited-period offer extending the membership to 12 months (3 + 9) for applications submitted through the Swiggy app on or after 22 May 2025, with the extra 9 months credited within 14 days of claiming the initial benefit. With applications now closed, this is of historical interest only.
Cashback Structure: How You Earn
The card runs three separate cashback buckets. Each has its own rate, its own monthly cap and its own minimum transaction size.
| Spend type | Cashback | Monthly cap | Minimum transaction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swiggy app — Food Delivery, Instamart, Dineout, Genie | 10% | ₹1,500 per billing cycle | ₹249 (raised from ₹100 w.e.f. 21 April 2026) |
| Online spends on eligible categories, plus Cleartrip | 5% | ₹1,500 per billing cycle | ₹100 |
| All other eligible spends | 1% | ₹500 per billing cycle | ₹100 |
That works out to a hard ceiling of ₹3,500 cashback per statement cycle, a figure HDFC confirms in its co-branded Most Important Terms and Conditions.
The single most important mechanic to understand: the buckets do not spill into one another. Once the 5% bucket has paid out ₹1,500 in a cycle, further eligible online spends earn zero — they do not drop down to 1%. The bank's own worked example makes this explicit, showing a ₹1,000 entertainment purchase earning nothing because the 5% cap had already been reached. The same applies to the 10% Swiggy bucket and the 1% bucket.
Which merchants get 5%
The 5% rate is locked to a specific list of Merchant Category Codes, and even within those MCCs only select merchants qualify.
| Category | MCCs |
|---|---|
| Apparels | 5137, 5139, 5611, 5621, 5631, 5641, 5651, 5655, 5661, 5691, 5697, 5699, 5948 |
| Department Store | 5200, 5300, 5311, 5331, 5949, 5973 |
| Electronics | 1731, 5045, 5046, 5065, 5099, 5722, 5732, 5734, 5946, 7372, 7622, 7623, 7629, 7631 |
| Entertainment | 4411, 4899, 5193, 5992, 7032, 7033, 7333, 7832, 7911, 7922, 7929, 7933, 7991, 7996, 7997 |
| Home Decor | 5198, 5211, 5231, 5251, 5712, 5713, 5714, 5718, 5719, 5950, 7641 |
| Pharmacies | 5122, 5912, 5975, 8042, 8043 |
| Personal Care | 5977, 7230, 7297, 7298 |
| Local Cabs | 4121, 4111, 5511, 5521, 7512 (Ola, Uber, Zoom, ANI Technologies) |
| Pet Stores & Supplies | 5192, 5733, 5735, 5941, 5942, 5945, 5995, 7829, 7941 |
| Discount Stores | 5399 (Flipkart, Amazon, Meesho, Ajio) |
| Grocery | 5411 (Amazon, Flipkart) |
Two important footnotes: transactions on Amazon and Flipkart under grocery MCC 5411 have earned 5% for statements from 10 May 2025 onwards, and Cleartrip bookings earn 5% by merchant name for statements from 17 April 2026. Gift cards bought at otherwise eligible merchants earn nothing.
Since MCCs are set by the merchant, HDFC explicitly disclaims responsibility if a merchant registers a transaction under the wrong code.
Worked example from the terms and conditions
Billing cycle 15 January to 14 February:
| Date | Transaction | Amount | Cashback | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 21 Jan | Swiggy food order | ₹1,200 | ₹120 | 10% bucket |
| 26 Jan | Online apparel purchase | ₹5,000 | ₹250 | 5% bucket |
| 31 Jan | Offline merchant outlet | ₹1,300 | ₹13 | 1% bucket |
| — | Swiggy Instamart order | ₹187 | ₹19 | Rounded to the nearest rupee |
| 1 Feb | Rent payment | ₹15,000 | ₹0 | Excluded category |
| 4 Feb | Online electronics purchase | ₹30,000 | ₹1,250 | 5% cap is ₹1,500; ₹250 already posted, so only ₹1,250 more can be paid |
| 5 Feb | Offline merchant outlet | ₹650 | ₹6 | ₹6.50 rounded down |
| 8 Feb | Online entertainment purchase | ₹1,000 | ₹0 | 5% bucket already at its monthly ceiling |
Note the two rounding rules at work: cashback is rounded to the nearest rupee per transaction, so a ₹187 Instamart order pays ₹19 while a ₹650 offline spend pays ₹6.
How and when cashback reaches you
Since 21 June 2024, cashback is credited as a statement adjustment rather than as Swiggy Money in the app. From 18 April 2026 the process changed again: cashback is now posted on a day-to-day basis and settled into the card account on the statement date, then auto-adjusted against the following cycle's outstanding balance.
Two things worth knowing:
- Cashback is never adjusted against finance charges or fees — only against the outstanding balance.
- There is no minimum cashback threshold for auto-redemption, and no option to accumulate it.
Legacy Swiggy Money earned before 21 June 2024 stays in the Swiggy app and expires one year from the date it was earned.
Milestone Benefits
None. This card has no spend-milestone vouchers or bonus tiers. The only spend threshold that matters is the ₹2,00,000 annual figure that waives the renewal fee.
Other Benefits
- Golf, via Mastercard World: 4 complimentary rounds of green fees per calendar year (one per month), 12 complimentary golf lessons per year, and 50% off green fees beyond the complimentary quota. Bookings are made through Mastercard, not HDFC.
- Birthday week Dineout offer: an extra 10% off on Swiggy Dineout, up to ₹500, on a minimum booking of ₹3,000, using coupon SWIGGYCARDBDAY. Valid for 7 days around your bank-registered birthday (3 days either side), once per cardholder, and only from 30 days after card activation.
- Cleartrip instant discounts: 20% off hotel bookings and 6.35% off flight bookings with coupon CTSWHDFC, a limited-period offer running from 17 April 2026 and stacking on top of the 5% Cleartrip cashback.
- SmartEMI: large purchases can be converted to EMI after the fact — but see the exclusions below, because doing so wipes out the cashback.
- Interest-free credit of up to 50 days from the date of purchase.
- Zero lost card liability on fraudulent transactions reported promptly to HDFC Bank's 24-hour call centre, plus emergency card replacement and up to 3 complimentary add-on cards.
- Contactless payments up to ₹5,000 per transaction without a PIN.
No airport lounge access — domestic or international — and no fuel surcharge waiver.
Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn Cashback
These categories earn nothing at all:
- Fuel
- Rent
- Government-related transactions
- Jewellery
- Wallet loads, prepaid cards and gift cards
- EMI transactions of all types
- SmartPay and SmartBuy portal transactions
- Education payments (per HDFC's co-branded MITC, which names this card specifically)
- Cash advances, travellers' cheques, foreign currency purchases and fees
- Interest charges and penalties
Within the Swiggy app, Swiggy Money Wallet loads, Swiggy Liquor and Swiggy Minis are excluded from the 10% rate.
Two traps worth calling out:
- EMI conversion is permanent. Convert a transaction to EMI and the cashback is reversed — and it does not come back even if you foreclose or cancel the EMI and pay in full. The reversal also lands in a later statement, and it applies even if that pushes the bucket back below its cap.
- Minimum ticket sizes. A Swiggy order below ₹249 earns nothing at all. Below ₹100 on the other two buckets, likewise.

Is the Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card Worth It?
For its intended user, this is one of the most efficient ₹500 cards ever issued in India. Max out just the 10% Swiggy bucket and you collect ₹18,000 a year on roughly ₹15,000 of monthly Swiggy spending — thirty-six times the fee. Add the 5% online bucket and the annual ceiling reaches ₹42,000. The ₹2,00,000 spend needed to waive the renewal fee is modest for anyone using it as a genuine daily card.
The limits are equally clear. Caps bite early: ₹15,000 of Swiggy spending in a month exhausts the 10% bucket, and ₹30,000 of eligible online spending exhausts the 5% one. Past those points the card pays nothing in that category, which makes it a poor choice as a sole primary card for high spenders. The 5% list is narrower than it first appears — it is MCC-locked and merchant-locked, so plenty of everyday online purchases quietly land in the 1% bucket, which itself tops out at ₹500 a month. And there is no lounge access, no fuel surcharge waiver, and a 3.5% forex markup that rules it out for travel.
It suits someone who orders from Swiggy several times a month, shops online across apparel, electronics and pharmacy, and carries a separate card for travel, fuel and large purchases. It does not suit anyone wanting a single do-everything card, anyone who spends heavily abroad, or anyone whose spending is mostly offline. Since new applications are closed, the practical question for most readers is whether to keep paying the renewal fee — and if you hit even half the Swiggy cap in a typical month, the answer is comfortably yes.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I still apply for the Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card? No. HDFC Bank stopped accepting new applications in February 2026. The Swiggy Ornge and Swiggy BLCK variants are the current offerings. Existing cardholders keep their card and its original benefits.
Will my card be migrated to Swiggy Ornge or Swiggy BLCK? No. HDFC confirmed in April 2026 that existing Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card holders will not be moved to the new variants.
What is the maximum cashback I can earn in a month? ₹3,500 per statement cycle — ₹1,500 from the 10% Swiggy bucket, ₹1,500 from the 5% online bucket and ₹500 from the 1% bucket.
What happens after I hit a cashback cap? Spending in that category earns nothing for the rest of the cycle. It does not fall back to a lower rate. The other two buckets carry on independently until they hit their own caps.
Is there a minimum transaction amount to earn cashback? Yes. From 21 April 2026, Swiggy transactions must be ₹249 or more to earn the 10% rate. The 5% and 1% buckets require a minimum of ₹100.
Does Swiggy Instamart earn 10%? Yes. Food Delivery, Instamart, Dineout and Genie all sit in the 10% bucket. Swiggy Money Wallet loads, Swiggy Liquor and Swiggy Minis do not.
Do Amazon and Flipkart purchases earn 5%? Yes, both are named under Discount Stores (MCC 5399), and their grocery transactions under MCC 5411 have earned 5% for statements from 10 May 2025 onwards. Gift cards bought there earn nothing.
How is the cashback credited? As a statement adjustment. Since 18 April 2026 cashback is posted day by day, settled on the statement date, and then auto-adjusted against the next cycle's outstanding balance. It is never adjusted against finance charges or fees.
Do I lose cashback if I convert a purchase to EMI? Yes, and permanently. The cashback is reversed in a subsequent statement and is not restored even if you foreclose or cancel the EMI.
Does the card offer airport lounge access or a fuel surcharge waiver? Neither. Fuel spends also earn no cashback at all.
How do I get the renewal fee waived? Spend ₹2,00,000 or more in the year before your renewal date. Cash on call, balance transfers and cash withdrawals do not count towards that total.
What are the golf benefits? Through the Mastercard World programme: 4 complimentary green-fee rounds per calendar year (one per month), 12 complimentary lessons a year, and 50% off green fees beyond that.
Which network is the card issued on? Mastercard World only. That means it cannot be linked to UPI, since credit-card-on-UPI in India is available only on RuPay.
