PIXEL Play is HDFC's digital-first card and the most genuinely interesting structure in its range: instead of fixed categories, you choose two 5% cashback packs yourself, plus one 3% merchant from Amazon, Flipkart or PayZapp.

At ₹500 with a ₹1 CashPoint, that is a 1% base card you can shape around your own spending — a rare thing on an Indian card.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

PIXEL Play earns CashPoints worth ₹1 each — real cashback against your statement.

Two self-selected 5% packs. 3% at Amazon, Flipkart or PayZapp, your choice. 1% on everything else, and 1% on UPI spends on the RuPay variant.

This card was unaffected by HDFC's 15 May 2026 rate change, which moved the Reward Point cards from ₹150 to ₹200 earning blocks. The cashback and co-brand cards were left alone.

SpendEffective rate
Two self-selected 5% packs**5.0%**
Amazon, Flipkart or PayZapp**3.0%**
UPI spends (RuPay variant)**1.0%**
Everything else1.0%
Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming**0%**

The configurability is the feature and the risk. Choose packs that match your actual spending and this is one of the better ₹500 cards available. Choose badly, or forget to revisit your choice as your spending changes, and you are holding a 1% card with a fee.

Check the pack-switching rules before you commit. HDFC's ability to change pack definitions, and how often you may switch, matters more on this card than on any fixed-category competitor.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; EasyEMI and e-wallet loading; rent, property management, maintenance and packers-and-movers; government transactions; education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik (paying a college or school directly still earns); and online skill-based gaming. Points are also REVERSED if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
  • Point expiry: Reward Points are valid for 24 months from accrual and lapse thereafter — HDFC states 'Unredeemed Reward Points will expire/lapse after 2 years of accumulation'.
  • Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.

Is the HDFC Bank PIXEL Play Credit Card Worth It?

At ₹500 with a ₹1 lakh reversal, PIXEL Play is strong — and the 1% base is four times MoneyBack+'s.

The self-selected packs make it the best fit for irregular spenders, because you can align them with whatever you actually buy rather than hoping a fixed list matches.

The RuPay variant's 1% on UPI is quietly valuable. Most cards earn nothing on UPI, and UPI is where a lot of Indian spending now happens.

The weakness is that it demands attention. A fixed-category card works whether or not you think about it. This one rewards people who revisit their configuration and penalises those who set it once and forget.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do PIXEL Play's 5% packs work? You select two cashback packs yourself from HDFC's list, plus one 3% merchant from Amazon, Flipkart or PayZapp. The rest of your spending earns the 1% base.

What is a PIXEL CashPoint worth? ₹1 against your statement balance — genuine cashback.

Is there a UPI reward? Yes, 1% on UPI spends on the RuPay variant. Most credit cards earn nothing on UPI at all.

What is the fee? ₹500 plus GST, reversed at ₹1 lakh of annual spend.

PIXEL Play or PIXEL Go? Play, unless ₹250 versus ₹500 is decisive. Play gives you two configurable 5% packs and a 3% merchant; Go gives 5% on SmartBuy only.

What does it not earn on? Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government payments, third-party education apps and online gaming earn nothing, and rewards are reversed if a purchase is converted to SmartEMI.
