The Pine Labs HDFC Bank card is a business card for Pine Labs merchants, not a consumer product. At ₹499 it earns 4 Reward Points per ₹150 on online spends and 2 per ₹150 in store, redeeming at 100 points = ₹20.

That works out to about 0.53% online and 0.27% in store — modest numbers that are honest about what this card is: a merchant-relationship product with a low fee and a small return.

The caps that actually bind

Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:

CapLimit
Grocery1,000 points per calendar month

The online/in-store split is an acceptance-channel distinction, card-not-present against card-present. That is not something a merchant category code can express, so no automated comparison tool will apply the higher rate correctly — it will treat everything as the 0.27% in-store rate and understate the card by half for an online-heavy business.

Grocery is capped at 1,000 Reward Points a calendar month.

The fee waiver has two different conditions. The first-year fee is waived on ₹45,000 of spend within 90 days of issue; the renewal fee is waived on ₹50,000 within 12 months. The first is much harder than it looks — 90 days is a short window.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; EasyEMI and e-wallet loading; rent, property management, maintenance and packers-and-movers; government transactions; education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik (paying a college or school directly still earns); and online skill-based gaming. Points are also REVERSED if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
  • Point expiry: Reward Points are valid for 24 months from accrual and lapse thereafter — HDFC states 'Unredeemed Reward Points will expire/lapse after 2 years of accumulation'.
  • Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.
  • Grocery cap: 1,000 Reward Points a calendar month on grocery, binding at ₹75,000 of grocery spend at the 2-points-per-₹150 in-store rate. Applies to both Pine Labs and Pine Labs Pro.

Is the Pine Labs HDFC Bank Credit Card Worth It?

At ₹499 with two achievable waiver thresholds, the card costs little and returns little. Judge it as a business banking relationship tool rather than a rewards card.

0.53% online is below what a consumer cashback card pays. PIXEL Go at half the fee pays a flat 1% on everything. If the Pine Labs merchant relationship is not the point, almost any consumer card beats this on rewards.

Note the sibling: Pine Labs PRO redeems at 100 points = ₹50 — two and a half times better, at ₹0.50 a point. It has been closed to new applicants since 1 October 2023, so it is not an option for new customers, but existing Pro holders should know their points are worth far more than this card's.

One caution on the earning block. HDFC moved most of its reward cards from ₹150 to ₹200 blocks on 15 May 2026. Pine Labs is named on neither the changed list nor the unchanged list, so the ₹150 basis here is carried forward unverified. If this card also moved, the real rates are 0.40% and 0.20%.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
