HDFC Bank INFINIA Metal Review 2026: 3.33% Base, SmartBuy 10X, Unlimited Lounge & FAQs
HDFC INFINIA Metal charges ₹12,500 and earns 5 Reward Points per ₹150 at ₹1 a point — a 3.33% base rate, the highest on any Indian card. Full SmartBuy cap maths, the 2026 voucher sub-cap, fees and FAQs.
HDFC Bank INFINIA is the top of the HDFC range and, on base rate alone, the most rewarding credit card in India. Five Reward Points per ₹150 at ₹1 a point is 3.33% on everything — not on a capped category, not on a partner list, on everyday spending. That single number is why the card is invite-only and why the ₹12,500 fee is rarely the thing people argue about.
The complication is that INFINIA's value is concentrated in redemption channels that each carry their own ceiling, and HDFC has tightened those ceilings twice in two years. Understanding the caps matters more on this card than on any other.

Reward Structure: How You Earn
INFINIA earns 5 Reward Points per ₹150 on retail spending. What lifts it above every other Indian card is not the accrual rate but the redemption rate: a point is worth ₹1 when redeemed for flights and hotels on SmartBuy, or for Apple products and Tanishq vouchers. That makes the base rate 3.33%.
Redeem elsewhere and the card collapses. Products and vouchers pay ₹0.50 a point — half. Statement cashback pays ₹0.30 — under a third. The 3.33% headline is a SmartBuy-travel number, and every percentage in this review is stated on that basis. If you do not book travel through SmartBuy, treat this as a 1% card and reconsider the fee.
| Spend | Effective rate |
|---|---|
| Travel and shopping on HDFC Bank SmartBuy (capped at 15,000 points a month) | **33.33%** |
| Everything else | 3.33% |
| Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming | **0%** |
The caps that actually bind
Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:
| Cap | Limit |
|---|---|
| Smartbuy | 15,000 points per calendar month, plus a daily limit of 15,000; brand vouchers sub-limited to 3,000 inside it |
| Grocery | 2,000 points per calendar month |
| Utility | 2,000 points per calendar month |
| Telecom | 2,000 points per calendar month |
| Insurance | 10,000 points per calendar month |
INFINIA's redemption values are published as a table, not as prose — there is no sentence anywhere in HDFC's terms reading "1 Reward Point = ₹1". Anyone scanning the T&C for that phrasing will find only the negative-balance clause, which debits points at ₹1 each and means the opposite.
The Apple and Tanishq channels are quota'd, not capped in rupees. One Apple product per calendar quarter; 50,000 points of Tanishq vouchers per calendar quarter. Both w.e.f. 1 October 2024. And points cover at most 70% of any SmartBuy booking — the remaining 30% is always cash.
Worked example
A ₹1.5 lakh monthly spend, with travel booked through SmartBuy.
| Category | Monthly spend | Points | Value at ₹1 |
|---|---|---|---|
| SmartBuy flights and hotels (10X) | ₹30,000 | 10,000 RP | ₹10,000 |
| Grocery (capped) | ₹20,000 | 2,000 RP | ₹2,000 |
| Dining, retail, online | ₹85,000 | 2,833 RP | ₹2,833 |
| Fuel | ₹15,000 | 0 RP | ₹0 |
| **Monthly total** | **₹1,50,000** | **14,833 RP** | **₹14,833** |
That is ₹18 lakh a year: the fee is reversed, and the return is roughly ₹1.78 lakh of points at the SmartBuy-travel rate. Note the SmartBuy band here sits just under its 15,000-point monthly ceiling — ₹45,000 of SmartBuy spend would hit it, and everything beyond earns the 5-point base rate.
Other Benefits
Unlimited lounge access, domestic and international, through Priority Pass — uncapped, unlike almost everything else on the card.
Golf, with complimentary games and lessons at courses across India and abroad.
Club Marriott membership and a 1+1 weekend buffet at participating ITC hotels.
Points transfer to airline and hotel programmes at up to 1:1 — though Turkish Miles&Smiles, Accor and Avianca LifeMiles take 2 Reward Points per loyalty point, half rate, w.e.f. 15 January 2024.
Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn
- Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; EasyEMI and e-wallet loading; rent, property management, maintenance and packers-and-movers; government transactions; education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik (paying a college or school directly still earns); and online skill-based gaming. Points are also REVERSED if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
- Point expiry: Reward Points are valid for 3 YEARS from accrual on INFINIA — longer than the 2 years HDFC's general MITC states. Points are also nullified entirely if the card goes unused for more than 365 days.
- Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.
- Smartbuy cap: 15,000 ACCELERATED Reward Points per calendar month on SmartBuy, with a daily limit of 15,000. The daily and monthly figures are the SAME, so the daily limit never binds on its own — a single day's booking can exhaust the month. Inside it, brand vouchers bought through GyFTR or Woohoo carry a 3,000-point sub-limit w.e.f. 1 July 2026 — subcapinr holds it, and it is PART OF this cap, not additional. A DAILY cap cannot be expressed in this schema — capperiod offers monthly, quarterly, annual and pertransaction, with no daily option. The bucket carries the MONTHLY figure and the daily limit is recorded in sub-fields and notes.
- Grocery cap: 2,000 Reward Points per calendar month on grocery, w.e.f. 1 January 2023 — ₹2,000 at the ₹1 rate, binding at ₹60,000 of grocery spend. INFINIA is named in HDFC's capped list.
- Utility cap: 2,000 Reward Points per calendar month on utility spends, w.e.f. 1 September 2024, binding at ₹60,000. A separate 2,000-point cap applies to telecom. Both sit alongside HDFC's 1% fee on utility spend above ₹50,000 a month, so utilities are limited twice over.
- Telecom cap: 2,000 Reward Points per calendar month on telecom spends, w.e.f. 1 September 2024 — a separate pool from the utility cap, binding at ₹60,000 of telecom spend.
- Insurance cap: 10,000 Reward Points per calendar month on insurance spends, w.e.f. 1 July 2025, binding at ₹3,00,000 of premium. Far looser than the grocery and utility caps, and notable because HDFC expressly includes insurance in the base earn rate.
What the Published Data Does Not Tell You
The daily SmartBuy cap equals the monthly one. 15,000 either way, so unlike Diners Black there is no pacing requirement — but also no protection against exhausting a month in one booking.
Points expire in 3 years, longer than HDFC's general 2-year rule, but are nullified entirely if the card goes unused for 365 days.

| Add-on card | Nil. |
| Reward redemption | ₹99 plus taxes on redemption through the rewards catalogue. |
| EMI processing | ₹199 plus taxes on retail EMI conversion. |
| GST | 18% on all fees, interest and charges. |
Is the HDFC Bank INFINIA Metal Edition Credit Card Worth It?
At ₹12,500 the question is not whether INFINIA earns well. It does — better than anything else sold in India. The question is whether you can use it.
The fee is reversed at ₹10 lakh of annual spend, and at that level the card has already returned ₹33,000 of points at the base rate alone before any accelerated earning. If you spend ₹10 lakh a year and book travel through SmartBuy, nothing else on the market competes.
Below about ₹5 lakh a year it is hard to justify. You pay ₹12,500 for a 3.33% rate that returns ₹16,650 — a real gain, but a thin one against a card like Regalia Gold at a fifth of the fee. And the 3.33% only holds if you redeem through SmartBuy travel; at the ₹0.30 cashback rate the same spending returns ₹5,000 and the card loses money.
The honest weakness is cap creep. The SmartBuy accelerated band is 15,000 points a month, the brand-voucher sub-limit fell to 3,000 in July 2026, Apple is one product a quarter and Tanishq is 50,000 points a quarter. Each individually is reasonable. Together they mean the 10X headline applies to a steadily narrowing slice of spending, and HDFC has shown it will keep narrowing it.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the joining fee for HDFC INFINIA? ₹12,500 plus GST, and the same on renewal. The renewal fee is reversed if you spend ₹10,00,000 in the preceding year.
What is an INFINIA Reward Point worth? ₹1 when redeemed for flights and hotels on SmartBuy, or for Apple products and Tanishq vouchers. ₹0.50 for products and vouchers generally, and ₹0.30 as statement cashback. The card's reputation rests on the first figure.
What is the SmartBuy cap on INFINIA? 15,000 accelerated Reward Points per calendar month, with a daily limit that is also 15,000 — so the daily limit never binds on its own and a single day's booking can exhaust the month. Since 1 July 2026 brand vouchers bought through GyFTR or Woohoo carry a 3,000-point sub-limit inside that 15,000, not on top of it.
Is the 1,50,000 figure a cap on earning? No, and this is the most common confusion about the card. 1,50,000 points a month is the redemption cap on SmartBuy flights and hotels — a limit on spending points. The earning cap is 15,000 accelerated points a month. They are ten-fold apart and mean different things.
Does INFINIA still earn on a ₹150 block? Yes. HDFC moved most of its reward cards from ₹150 to ₹200 earning blocks on 15 May 2026, but INFINIA was named on the unchanged list, along with both Diners Black variants and BizBlack.
How much lounge access does INFINIA give? Unlimited complimentary domestic and international lounge access for the primary cardholder, through Priority Pass. This is one of the few genuinely uncapped benefits on the card.
What does INFINIA not earn on? Fuel, EasyEMI and wallet loading, rent and property management, government payments, education paid through third-party apps such as CRED or Cheq, and online skill-based gaming. Points are also reversed if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
Is there a spending ceiling on the whole card? Yes — HDFC's Fair Usage Policy caps INFINIA at 2,00,000 Reward Points earned per statement cycle, which at 5 points per ₹150 binds at ₹60 lakh of spend in a cycle. It will not affect most holders.
