Reward Structure: How You Earn
The base rate is 4 Reward Points per ₹200 — 1% at the ₹0.50 SmartBuy rate.
The card's reason to exist is 20 Reward Points per ₹200 on Swiggy and Zomato — 5%. There is also a SmartBuy accelerated band with its own cap.
| Spend | Effective rate |
|---|---|
| Travel and shopping on SmartBuy (capped at 4,000 points a month) | **10.0%** |
| Swiggy and Zomato online food delivery (capped at 2,500 points a month) | **5.0%** |
| Everything else | 1.0% |
| Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming | **0%** |
The caps that actually bind
Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:
| Cap | Limit |
|---|---|
| Smartbuy | 4,000 points per calendar month, plus a daily limit of 2,000; brand vouchers sub-limited to 1,000 inside it |
| Food Delivery | 2,500 points per calendar month |
The food-delivery band is capped at 2,500 Reward Points a calendar month across both platforms. At 20 points per ₹200 that binds at ₹25,000 of food delivery a month — generous for most households, but a real ceiling for anyone ordering daily. Past it you drop to the 1% base.
The SmartBuy band is capped at 4,000 points a month and 2,000 a day. Two separate pools; food delivery does not consume SmartBuy allowance or vice versa.
Worked example
₹50,000 a month with heavy food delivery.
| Category | Monthly spend | Points | Value at ₹0.50 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swiggy and Zomato, within the cap | ₹25,000 | 2,500 RP | ₹1,250 |
| Swiggy and Zomato, past the cap | ₹5,000 | 100 RP | ₹50 |
| Other retail | ₹17,000 | 340 RP | ₹170 |
| Fuel | ₹3,000 | 0 RP | ₹0 |
| **Monthly total** | **₹50,000** | **2,940 RP** | **₹1,470** |
Note the cliff: ₹5,000 past the cap earned ₹50 instead of ₹250.
Milestone Benefits
| Spend | Benefit | Value |
|---|---|---|
| ₹1.5 lakh a quarter | ₹1,500 voucher from Marriott Experience, Barbeque Nation, Lakme Salon, O2 Spa, Decathlon or Domino's | ₹1,500 |
Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn
- Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; EasyEMI and e-wallet loading; rent, property management, maintenance and packers-and-movers; government transactions; education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik (paying a college or school directly still earns); and online skill-based gaming. Points are also REVERSED if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
- Point expiry: Reward Points are valid for 24 months from accrual and lapse thereafter — HDFC states 'Unredeemed Reward Points will expire/lapse after 2 years of accumulation'.
- Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.
- Smartbuy cap: 4,000 ACCELERATED Reward Points per calendar month on SmartBuy, with a daily limit of 2,000. At 2,000 a day the monthly cap needs at least 2 separate days to reach. Inside it, brand vouchers bought through GyFTR or Woohoo carry a 1,000-point sub-limit w.e.f. 1 July 2026 — subcapinr holds it, and it is PART OF this cap, not additional. A DAILY cap cannot be expressed in this schema — capperiod offers monthly, quarterly, annual and pertransaction, with no daily option. The bucket carries the MONTHLY figure and the daily limit is recorded in sub-fields and notes.
- Food Delivery cap: 2,500 Reward Points a calendar month on the 5X Swiggy and Zomato band, shared across both platforms. At 20 points per ₹200 it binds at ₹25,000 of food-delivery spend a month.

Is the HDFC Bank Diners Club Privilege Credit Card Worth It?
If you spend ₹15,000–₹25,000 a month on food delivery, this card pays for itself on that line alone. 5% on ₹25,000 is ₹1,250 a month, ₹15,000 a year.
Below about ₹8,000 a month of food delivery the case weakens considerably, because the 1% base rate is unremarkable and Diners acceptance costs you on everything else.
Diners Club acceptance remains the structural problem. Swiggy and Zomato both accept it without issue, which is convenient — the card works best exactly where Diners is reliably accepted. But your offline spending will often land on a companion card earning far less.
Fair Usage caps the card at 50,000 Reward Points earned per statement cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What does it not earn on? Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government payments, third-party education apps and online gaming earn nothing, and points are reversed if a purchase is later converted to SmartEMI.
