Axis SELECT is a ₹3,000 lifestyle card earning 1%, with the rate doubling on the first ₹20,000 of spend each month. It has a ₹8 lakh fee waiver and a ₹3 lakh milestone.

Both of those thresholds change materially on 1 October 2026, and if you are reading this near that date it is the first thing to understand.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

EDGE Reward Points are worth ₹0.20 on the Gift EDGE portal — Axis states the rate directly. Every percentage here is stated after that conversion.

10 EDGE Reward Points per ₹200 on general spends — 1%. 20 per ₹200 — 2% — on the first ₹20,000 of spend each calendar month.

Axis changed this card on 28 August 2026. Gift-card purchases and toll, bridge and road fees stopped earning rewards and stopped counting toward milestones and the annual fee waiver.

The caps that actually bind

Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:

The milestone and fee-waiver definitions narrow sharply on 1 October 2026. From that date, spends on insurance, rent, fuel, education, utilities, telecom, government services, gold, wallets and gift cards will not count toward either the ₹3 lakh milestone or the ₹8 lakh fee waiver.

That is a long list, and it covers exactly the large recurring payments people use to clear spend thresholds. Anyone relying on utility or insurance spending to reach ₹8 lakh will stop clearing it. This is the single most consequential change to the card and it is not yet reflected on most comparison sites.

Priority Pass no longer works at domestic lounges, from 28 August 2026. Domestic entry now requires presenting the Axis card itself with a boarding pass. International access is unchanged.

The DCC markup more than doubled on 28 August 2026, from 1.5% to 3.5%. If a foreign terminal offers to bill you in rupees, decline — that is the charge you would be accepting.

The entertainment benefit tightens on 1 November 2026. From that date it requires ₹25,000 of spend across the previous three calendar months, with interest, fees and refunds excluded. It is currently unconditional, so this is a real narrowing.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; rent (MCC 6513); wallet loads (MCC 6540); government institution transactions (MCC 9222, 9311, 9399, 9402); cash withdrawals; EMI conversions; gift card purchases and toll, bridge and road fees (both excluded w.e.f. 28 August 2026); and fees, charges, GST and reversals. Insurance, utilities, telecom, education and jewellery are excluded on some cards only — the per-card notes say which.
  • Point expiry: EDGE Reward Points and EDGE Miles expire 36 months from the date of accrual unless the card's own terms say otherwise. Points are forfeited if the card is closed, and a NEGATIVE point balance at closure is converted to a statement debit the cardholder must pay.
  • Redemption fee: ₹199 per redemption.
  • Monthly 2X cap: ₹20,000 of spend a calendar month earns the 2X rate; everything above it earns the base rate. A SPEND cap — it binds at 2,000 accelerated EDGE Reward Points a month.

Is the Axis Bank SELECT Credit Card Worth It?

The ₹8 lakh waiver was already demanding and is about to get harder. Strip out utilities, insurance, rent, fuel and telecom and the qualifying spend becomes discretionary retail — a much larger real requirement than ₹8 lakh suggests.

The 2X band is small. ₹20,000 a month at 2% is ₹400; the remaining spend earns 1%. On ₹1 lakh a month the blended rate is about 1.2%.

12 international lounge visits a year is the strongest benefit, and it survives the August change — it is domestic Priority Pass access that went.

Weigh it against HORIZON at ₹3,000, which earns a published 2% base in EDGE Miles rather than 1% in EDGE Reward Points. Unless the lounge allowance or the entertainment benefits are what you want, HORIZON earns double.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
