Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card Review 2026: What the 25% Cashback Actually Pays & FAQs
Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card charges ₹500 and advertises 25% cashback on Airtel services via the Thanks app — capped at roughly ₹250 a month. What the headline really means, caps, fees and FAQs.
The Airtel Axis card advertises 25% cashback, the highest headline rate on any card in this dataset. It is also the most misleading, and that deserves to lead rather than sit in a footnote.
The 25% applies only to Airtel's own services, only when paid through the Airtel Thanks app, and only up to roughly ₹250 a month.

Reward Structure: How You Earn
Cashback is credited in rupees, so every percentage here is a true percentage with no point valuation to translate.
25% on Airtel Mobile, Broadband and DTH via the Airtel Thanks app. 10% on other utility payments via the Thanks app. 1% on everything else.
| Spend | Effective rate |
|---|---|
| Airtel Mobile, Broadband and DTH via the Airtel Thanks app (capped at 250 points a month) | **25.0%** |
| Other utility payments via the Airtel Thanks app (capped at 250 points a month) | **10.0%** |
| Everything else | 1.0% |
| Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming | **0%** |
The caps that actually bind
Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:
| Cap | Limit |
|---|---|
| Airtel | 250 points per calendar month |
| Thanks | 250 points per calendar month |
A ₹1,000 Airtel bill earns ₹250. A ₹3,000 Airtel bill earns the same ₹250. The cap means the maximum realisable benefit from the 25% band is about ₹3,000 a year.
The accelerated cashback is capped relative to your base earning, which is unusual and worth understanding. Axis's terms describe it as 'capped to the base cashback amount (1% category) earned during the same period' — a multiplier rather than a flat ceiling. A cardholder who spends little outside Airtel earns proportionally less on Airtel too. No structured cap field can express that.
Two benefits have been withdrawn. The four complimentary domestic lounge visits are discontinued, and the 10% band on Swiggy, Zomato and BigBasket has been replaced with a 10% construct on other utility payments.
Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn
- Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; rent (MCC 6513); wallet loads (MCC 6540); government institution transactions (MCC 9222, 9311, 9399, 9402); cash withdrawals; EMI conversions; gift card purchases and toll, bridge and road fees (both excluded w.e.f. 28 August 2026); and fees, charges, GST and reversals. Insurance, utilities, telecom, education and jewellery are excluded on some cards only — the per-card notes say which.
- Point expiry: EDGE Reward Points and EDGE Miles expire 36 months from the date of accrual unless the card's own terms say otherwise. Points are forfeited if the card is closed, and a NEGATIVE point balance at closure is converted to a statement debit the cardholder must pay.
- Redemption fee: ₹199 per redemption.
- Airtel cap: Axis states a maximum value back of ₹200 per partner per month on the Thanks-app bands, and elsewhere illustrates a ₹250 base-cashback figure. ₹250 is recorded as the cap. The precise figure differs between clauses in the uploaded sources. FLAGGED.
- Thanks cap: The 10% Airtel Thanks utility band under its own monthly ceiling, structured the same way as the 25% band.

Is the Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card Worth It?
Judged honestly, this is a ₹500 card returning about ₹3,000–₹6,000 a year to a committed Airtel customer. That is a decent outcome — it is simply not a 25% cashback card in any meaningful sense.
The multiplier structure punishes single-purpose use. If you hold this card only to pay your Airtel bill, the accelerated cashback is throttled by how little you spend elsewhere. It rewards using it as a general card.
If you are not an Airtel customer there is nothing here — the 1% base is ordinary and ACE pays 1.5% uncapped for a comparable fee.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What does the 25% Airtel cashback actually pay? Up to roughly ₹250 a month, on Airtel Mobile, Broadband and DTH paid through the Airtel Thanks app. A ₹1,000 bill and a ₹3,000 bill both hit the ceiling.
Why is the accelerated cashback capped against base earning? Axis's terms cap it 'to the base cashback amount (1% category) earned during the same period' — so the more you spend generally, the more accelerated cashback you can earn on Airtel. Spending only on Airtel throttles it.
Does it still have lounge access? No. The captured terms state the four complimentary domestic lounge visits are being discontinued.
Is the Swiggy and Zomato 10% still available? No. It has been replaced with a 10% value-back construct on other utility payments via the Thanks app.
What is the fee? ₹500 plus GST, waived at ₹2 lakh of annual spend.
